My first serious viewing of TV via my new tuner was had this evening. I watched The Project (a news and current affairs commentary program with a nice fun sense of humour) and Jamie Oliver's Great Britain, because I love food shows.

If I keep the bunny ears on the bed and try not to disturb their stability too much it works out just fine.

I also had to reset the channels beforehand - this being the third reset, but the most successful, as I finally got it to pick up the Channel 7 channels (7, 7Two, 7Mate). Now I know it's doing well.

Hopefully it'll do well in Sydney as well.

In other things, Mum and I have tentative plans to visit both Taronga Zoo and Manly while we're down there, though it depends on if there's some cool days as to whether Mum will do so. I'll probably brave even blazing heat to go out a couple of times to something more than just the Mt Druitt shops.

One of the reasons for Manly? Adriano Zumbo's patisserie. For those who don't know who he is, he's made appearances on Masterchef, and does some ridiculously elaborate cakes and slices.
Also, going to Manly means a ferry trip. I haven't been on a Sydney ferry since I was maybe 11? I'd like a chance to take one.

I also want to see the zoo again. Pity we aren't staying over new years, Taronga has the park open for the New Years fire works (I wonder how the animals take it, or are they reasonably insulated in their sleeping quarters from the noise?). Taronga is even open on Xmas day, but like Mum said, if we went that day, when would we get the cooking for Xmas dinner done?

Thoughts curtesy of my Aussie classics CD: As much Jimmy Barnes (the one time lead of Cold Chisel) has said that Khe Sanh is not a cheery song (and when you really listen to it, it's not - it's about how a Vietnam vet coped after the end of the Vietnam War) it's still a very good song, and one I am addicted to.

"Well the last plane out of Sydney's almost gone
Yeah the last plane out of Sydney's almost gone
And it's really got me worried
I'm goin' nowhere and I'm in a hurry
And the last plane out of Sydney's almost gone."

Okay, so I was bored. May be tired as all getout and it's an unexpected workday (meaning my supervisor asked yesterday if I could come in), but boredom won and Mum and I visited Kmart.

Well it's just as well because I found something I have been considering since I got Larsa - a spare battery.

Yeah, some may think I'm over-careful, but I'd rather that then undercareful.

I also got the Pink single U + Ur Hand - I saw it once a few weeks ago when I woke early enough on a Sunday to catch the last hour of Rage (music video show on the ABC, aired overnight on Saturday and Sunday early mornings). The song is amusing and the sindle was only $4.44, so I grabbed it.

Also, while heading out, Mum and I were lured by the music playing in HMV and I ended up buying it as well - a Westlife one with a few covers, including Total Eclipse of the Heart. I mentioned the three song rule to Mum and when she picked up the case it had at least three good songs on it and it was going for $19.95 so I got it.

Just so you know, the three song rule? If you like at least three songs on an album by one artist? Go ahead and buy it, it's a good investment. The Three Song Rule has always worked for me when I've applied it.

Oh, and I found Pocky. I'm still not sure what I think of it - maybe it's because the chocolate is dark. The stuff isn't cheap though, and I got it at the asian groccery store down the Coles/Kmart end of the Hyperdome, which I don't usually visit - we usually park up the other end and alot of the time walking right down the other end is a bit too far.

I decided to get my butt into gear and rip a few CDs that I lost when I got Fëanor upgraded and as a result got reminded of a few old favourites.

One such favourite was Linkin Park, and you know what? Screw it! I know it's a classic fanbrat choice for emotastic music but hell, I have better!

Now, Silverchair, that's good! Neon Ballroom beats Linkin Park's butt for angsty!

For anyone who wants a dose? Emotion Sickness. Fucking cool song.

I'm sure I do this in every fandom, listen to a song that I feel has some small significance to some character or other factor.

This time it's been caused by me going and opening one of my pore neglected playlists - my Linkin Park one.

This is only part of the song Wth>You, and even then, not all of the lyrics feel apropriate. I have however highlighted the ones that struck me )

I'm sure it won't be too hard to guess exactly who those lines make me think of.

My headphones are on the way out. I'll have to get a new pair, and soon.

I get silly when I get tired.

I'm up late because I am trying to download the DoC trailer.

I went looking for lyrics for a Nightwish song (easier than going upstairs, getting the CD insert and typing them out) and ended up downloading the ringtone for that song.

So now my phone has a Wish I Had An Angel ringtone.

I downloaded an AC videoclip that got posted on [livejournal.com profile] adventchildren_.

OH FUCK. I REALLY need to see that damn movie!

For all that listening to Rammstein and Metallica and other rock music is interesting sometimes it's nice to get back to grass roots music-wise.

"Grass roots" for me tends to be orchestral soundtracks and all-out classical music - stuff like Gladiator, the Baldur's Gate soundtrack and the Messiah.

As for the last one... well Mother convinced the Bint to join the church choir (we live, like, two doors away from the nearest church of our given denomination - literally) and one of the songs up for practice is Worthy Is The Lamb That Was Slain - the second-last song in the Messiah.

The Messiah is an old old favourite, harking back to some of our (both the Bint's and my own) classical music love, along with Beethovan's 9th, the soundtrack for Fantasia (the Disney cartoon movie - it's got several different composers included) and the grand-daddy of them all, the 1812 Overture.

Blessing and honour, glory and power be unto him that siteth upon the throne, and unto the Lamb...

On the other hand, this damn song has some damn tricky timing in it...

I am going to have make the Bint buy some Rammstein, so long as it's got Amerika on it. That's a cool song.
