Got this from [livejournal.com profile] angel_kink

How did you come to start your LJ?
This LJ in particular? RP originally. LJ in general? RP. Ironic that.

How did you find your first friends?
RP and fanfic.

Are those first friends still on your FL?
My first journal, no. This journal... possibly.

How long have you been on LJ?
Since around 2003. I know they still had joining codes at the time I made [livejournal.com profile] majinbakahentai.

Do you have more friends or communities on your FL?
Communities, but I don't actively watch most of them - I keep them segregated in flist filters and some filters I haven't looked at in years.

Do you do a lot of friends cuts?
Ehh, not really. I cut if I'm posting pictures or if I write a really long post.

What do you like in an LJ friend?
Friendly, chatty, talking about Fandom, talking about pets.

What do you dislike in an LJ friend?
Rabid hate, shipping nazis.

What would make you un-friend someone immediately?
Rabid hate, shipping nazis, blatant bigotry. I don't un-friend much though.

Have you been caught up in a lot of LJ drama?
Not really, I manage to keep out of the way of most drama, though I've had a few minor incidents that related to RPs I was in.

Do real-life friends and family members know you have a journal on LJ?
Mum is aware I have one. Grey might be aware since he's aware of my FFN profile.

Do you also have Facebook and if so, what do you prefer – LJ or FB?
No, no Facebook.

What about Twitter?
Yes, Twitter. Most of my posting for most of the past year has been daily Twitter feed. It's a lot easier to post random small observations there - I don't feel beholden to put more in to fill out a post.

Do you blog on any other sites?
I occasionally post updates on dA, but try to keep it relevant to my art interests. Once in a blue moon I'll update on the Sims 3 site, usually about recent things to do with my S3 game.

How often do you check in on LJ?
At least once a day, more if my attention isn't taken by something else (like right know I am rabidly consuming the Hobbit kink meme to the exclusion of all else).

What do you rarely or never post about?
RL romance.

Why don't you post about that?
It doesn't exist for me.

Have you ever thought about deleting your journal?
NO!

Have you ever changed your username?
Not in the sense of buying a name change token, but I did change every-day journals. My old journal is still there, but barring a recent post saying that I've gotten into the Hobbit fandom, it's left unused.

Why did you choose your current username?
Mimi Fish is a character I've had for years, and for some reason I decided to let her venture onto the RP scene. Then events conspired to make me shift fandom using this journal as my main ID and... *shrug*.

If you're looking for new friends, how do you find them?
Hang out on fanfic and discussion comms.

Are you taking new people on to your Friends List just now?
I don't immediately friend back if someone randomly friends me, but if I recognise them from fandom comms I'm far more likely to friend back.

Finally, tell us the reasons why you keep an online journal.
Fanfic, fandom socialisation, somewhere to air my thoughts.

The one thing I have to be glad of when it comes to Noddy is that, as his sister, I have the right hit him upside the head when he starts getting insulting about slash.
mimi_sardinia: (Ashe - sad)
I should never post my mega-bunnies on public communities.

Gacked from [livejournal.com profile] hellenebright, though I wasn't able to answer all the questions she'd listed.

[The old flame you don't see very often any more but whom you still really enjoy getting together with for a few drinks and maybe a pleasant nostalgic romp in the sheets.]
Baldur's Gate

[The mysterious, dark, gothy one with whom you used to sit up talking until 3 a.m. at weird coffeehouses and with whom you were quite smitten until you realized he really was fucking crazy.]
Harry Potter

[The one you spent a whole weekend in bed with and who drank up all your liquor, and whom you'd still really like to fuck again although you're relieved (s)he doesn't actually live in town.]
X-Men, Smallville

[The steady.]
Final Fantasy - the pan-fandom.

[The alluring stranger whom you've flirted with at parties but have never gotten really serious with.]
Final Fantasy IX

[The one your friends keep introducing you to and who seems like a hell of a cool guy except it's never really gone anywhere.]
Metal Gear Solid

[The one who's slept with all your friends, and you keep looking at him and thinking, "Him? How the hell did he land all these cool babes?"]
World of Warcraft, Naruto

[The one who gave you the best damned summer of your life and who you measure all other potential partners against.]
Baldur's Gate

[The one that you will cheat on your steady with.]
Transformers

[The one that you’d look up on Friends Revisited]
Doctor Who/Torchwood

[The one that you’d change the locks on]
Dragonball Z

[First love]
Star Trek

[The one you first slept with]
Baldur's Gate

(And I've changed my mind on a few of them.)

I've been reading the TV Tropes Wiki again, and came across the Neglectful Precursors page, where Precursor races have been put on "trial" as whether they have been neglectful of the wellbeing of younger races.

It amuses me that the only one found Not Guilty is the Cetra - because they actually tried to get rid of Jenova and the fight practically wiped them out in the process.

Others listed aren't anywhere near as nice.
mimi_sardinia: (Strikethrough'07 - Heave Ho Never Shall)
This post struck me as interesting, in the aftermath of the FanLib wank and the Strikethrough disaster. I'd recommend anyone and everyone read it.

I'll be investigating [livejournal.com profile] sevenfandomdays more, but tomorrow - it's 3:33 AM now and I should get to bed if I want to be able to work tomorrow, and given that I missed two days last week, I want to miss as little of my shifts as I can for while.

For once I am depressed that something has no section on the Pit.

I'm watching Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves - yes, the old Kevin Costner one - and I really wish there was some fanfic for it - especially Robin/Will incest, because they had such great tension, and Costner and Slater looked good together.

Oh well, I guess it's just a bit too old and I should go back to some fandom with more backing to it and potential incest... like FFVIII or FFXII (and no, I'm not talking Solidercest, even I acknowledge that is squicky, but there's lots of fun to be had in the Rosenburg brothers though).

And before you ask, the reason why I'm watching Robin Hood is because it was cheap, it was available at work, it's an old favourite of Mum's, and I like listening to the commentary - I friggin' love commentaries! Doctor Who taught me that!

I'd just like too take this opportunity to pimp out [livejournal.com profile] fandom_bound.

The idea, as far as I understand it, is to send out a few journals - as in actual books - through snail mail, from person to person, and each person who it passes on to fills in a page with some sort of fanwork.

I'm interested including a picture of this type, preferably for the proposed slash journal, and I would like to try get a few more FF folk in on it (or if you wish, whatever other fandom you prefer).

If you're interested, go poke around the comm.

For anyone who wants to add them:

My InsaneJournal
My GreatestJournal
My JournalFen Journal

And on other things, I made use of the $50 I was going to pay up my journal with - I want and watched PotC 3.

Heave ho, there be SPOILERS beyond this here cut tag! )

I have a lot of old roleplay journals. This is to keep track which I've sign to F_C.

Here's a journal, there's a journal... )

Mum told me a lovely tale about a controversy that happened near on 20 years ago.

Ever heard of Proctor and Gamble? They distributed a lot of commercial product. So apparently they were idiots and said something on TV about bringing down Christianity. If Snopes says it's false, that doesn't change the result of what the rumour caused - that is, the near bankruptcy of P&G because people who heard about this boycotted their products.

Mum's reason for bringing this up? If all of fandom boycotted FanLib's sponsors, and told people they know IRL to boycott it, then maybe enough loss of revenue can be brought on those companies to make them stop supporting FanLib and therefore bring FanLib crashing to it's knees.

That's if Fandom really wanted to be nasty. :)
mimi_sardinia: (All Your Base Are Belong To Larsa)
For anyone who has been following the whole FanLib kurfuffle and can't make heads or tails of it, this is a lovely metaphor for the whole thing.

And for those who have been making heads or tails of it, read anyway, because it's still an entertaining metaphor.

For anyone who hasn't been following the FanLib kurfuffle: FanLib = bad. Don't upload fic there. That's all you really need to know, but the metaphor linked above is still entertaining reading.

I'm just venting over something on [livejournal.com profile] fanficrants...

No matter how anyone sees a character, someone else will disagree with them.

Why is it so hard to understand that?

No matter how straight one may see Cid Highwind as being, someone (quite a few someones for that matter, given how popular Valenwind still remains, even in the face of canon Cid/Shera) will refuse to accept that he is totally absolutely straight and will still slash him with Vincent.

As far as I am conserned, it's not about Cid, or his presumed orientation, it's that people will always slash characters, no matter how much of a "redblooded bloke" that character may be.

Fine, Cid's straight. He had a woman in a bikini painted on the side of the Highwind. He's canonically married. He's a typical red-blooded male. But that will never stop people from slashing him.
mimi_sardinia: (Squall)
Due to a post on [livejournal.com profile] fanthropology I off-the-cuff, invented this variation of the "I'm in ur base, killin' ur doodz" meme for FFVIII:

Squall: Ur in my dreems, I think ur a moron.
mimi_sardinia: (*Squee!*)
So I got a christmas present - a couple fo CDs from [livejournal.com profile] gardensgnome and the first two thoughts while going through the AMVs she sent is

1. I need to hurry and get my DS off laybuy so I can get to buying DoC,

and 2. I have only recognised one small piece of the anime AMVs she sent - a scene that looks like it's Yue and Touya from CCS.

New thought: I should try getting more Nickelback too.

There's another package waiting (well, I can't get it until 4 PM) from Noddy. Knowing him, the contents are probably only on loan but he's sending up two or three DVD sets so I can watch, and while I have long since lost a lot of interest in the Simpsons I really do appreciate being able to see the Children of Dune series, since not all that long ago I was raiding through the Dune pages on Wikipedia.

Next random thought: So that's where that "Don't you wish your [girl]friend was hot like me" line comes from! Just shows I really am behind on the latest music.
mimi_sardinia: (Where will you be...)
So, there's a slightly worrying situation on [livejournal.com profile] fanficrants.

A self-confessed lurker, [livejournal.com profile] football_girl came on and posted a rant that escenially consisted of "Fanficrants is bad! People should be allowed to write fanon, OOC and general badfic if they want!".

Of course, predicably, the community gathered to comment with their objections and general comments.

Well now there's a new post - comment-locked (which is against comm rules) and full of "Ha ha! You did just what I thought you'd do!".

What's worrying however is the tone of "Now I have material, I'm going to do something really nasty!" going on in it - with lines like:

There was a reason I posted it, and you'll all find out soon enough why if you keep your eyes open on LJ.

and

I never approved of communities like this,

and

So, my job is done. Thank you for contributing. I enjoyed it. Keep your eyes open. I'm sure you're just going to love it. xD

Also, I apologise if this actually long-term hurt someone.

Somehow I think the comm has a brat with a grudge out to get it deleted by LJ Abuse - or something like that, but what worries me is that will LJ Abuse see that they deliberately triggered said "abuse" that was levelled at them?
