FF Kids

I've just been thinking, over the last few hours since I got thinking about Larsa Solider, about kids in FF games, and it seems that practically all the games since FF7 (since I don't know any of the pre-7 ones well enough to give an opinion) have some sort of Token Kid - either of the Cute Kid, or Smart Kid type.

FFVII - Marlene.
BC - Yuffie.
AC - Denzel (though he shares with Marlene).
DoC - Shelke.
FFVIII - Ellone.
FFIX - Ekio.
FFX - Bahamut's Fayth.
FFX-2 - Shinra.
FFXII - Larsa Solider.

I know, I didn't include FFXI, but I know crap all about 11 and am never likely to bother since it's a MMORPG and my internet connection is crap for things like that.

Also, KH kinda doesn't count, since the lead character is still young either that he scrapes into the "Cute Kid" catagory - or at least he did in KH1, before puberty really hit him. (That makes me wonder, has anyone ever written a fic that actually brings up how much Sora grew while he was asleep between CoM and KH2? That'd be interesting reading.)

Nabbed this off of [livejournal.com profile] firefly99 -

Make a list of all the characters in your icons. (Although you may have more than one icon of a single character, they only go on the list once.) Alphabetize it. Take the first two people on the list; that's your first pairing. Second two people; second pairing. etc.

I stumbled across a really good buy today, while I was in poking around Target. Two PS2 memory cards for $39.88.

Now take into consideration that all the other memory cards all had the exact same price, for single card packs.

I didn't actually see any other double packs in either of the security cabinets that contained memory cards so I think I was lucky.

That means I have one memory card per game that I currently own - though I'm not sure if that means I will take up playing FFX again yet - I have enough of a juggle finding time to play both of my KH games between work and my internet addiction (really, I love the internet - I seem to find excuses to stay on - even when the only apparently interesting option is to put on The Sims 2. I just feel like the internet is one of my few true links with the world - one that's interactive).

So I'll haul myself upstairs soon and start shifting games onto these two darlings so I'm not filling card space at both ends (I have my KH2 save at the bottom end of the same card that my KH1 saves are on) and they are still all playable, which is more than I can say for the saves on the Max Drive (I have to stick in the AR Max disk to even be able to identify the flashdrive on the PS2, let alone be able to transfer games from it to a memory card).

In a slightly odd turn of fan-driven perchasing, I bought a packet of sherbet lemons. I totally blame American publishers who feel a need to translate British books into American English - specifically the Harry Potter books, which I once heard a few examples of how typically British idioms and word usages got changed into more American ones. The three examples I recall is pants/trousers, lorry/pickup truck and sherbet lemons/[some sort of term for lemon candy].

*Idly using the Squee! icon because I have Xemnas on the brain at the moment.*

Okay, so I've made up a neighbourhood. The landscaping isn't spectacular but that's because I still haven't gotten a full grip of the conversion between SC4 and TS2.

If anyone tries making their own landscapes, keep in mind that you only get the middle of the city plot you've transfered - that means, don't plan out roads on the outer edges of the map and expect to be able to use them.

As much as I love the peak in the middle of Never Was there's not many roads on the map that I can use - which is a pain, because the long shots show there's more roads further out.

Anyway, the plots I've managed to make aren't great for landscaping but what they do have in their favour is enough roads to suport my collection of FF and KH sims. Predicably, for a neighbourhood that is intended to be my perminent FF/KH one, I named the primary area Radiant Garden, the university Hollow Bastion, the shopping district Twilight Town and downtown Traverse Town. It was a bit of toss-up which would get Twilight and which Traverse, but I get the idea that Traverse Town is perminently night so it got Downtown.

The big problem now is setting up the sub-neighbourhoods - the uni, the shops, downtown. I think I am going to have to plunder the official neighbourhoods to get stuff - I am definately going to have to clone that nightclub I adjusted in Pleasantview Downtown (I didn't do much, I just altered the bathrooms to include Rejuvenation Chambers) and I am very inclined towards setting up a nice little vampire population as well.

But I still want to get all the Org families housed before I start moving them out of Never Was - and get all the Org toddlers trained in at least the basics (walking, talking, potty) - means less lots to shift that way.
I also need to do some work on some of the other houses - Supernova (Seph and Cloud's house) needs a garage, since the loss of the savegame I had before I transfered to Fanyarë erased the one I had made, the Kingdom house, Wutai, Spira house (if I keep it) and Square Round (the Hubbard house) will all need extensive remodelling to get a garage into them - if I don't just declare it a bust and just yank the families in question out of those houses and build new ones.

But the Org first - then neighbourhood setup, then I start placing houses and doing renovations to existing family homes. I'm still in for the long haul yet!

This can be counted as Mimi's Not Quite So Random Followup To Her Random Thought of the Day.

To put it simply, the observation on Balarlai's complection being similar to Xehanort's has reminded me of how Squeenix likes to make all of their bad guys (and girls) white-haired.

Let me list the usual suspects: Jenova, Sephiroth, Ultimecia, Kuja, Yunalesca, Baralai, Ansem/Xehanort/Xemnas, Kadaj, Loz and Yazoo, Wiess. All of them are white-haired.

The one who is a little questionable is Baralai - as that manifesto makes note of. He was possessed and really is only as much the true villain of the piece as say, Seifer. But it still means that through the mechanics of possession Shyuin has white hair by proxy.

I would be curious to know the hair colours of villains in other FFs - both before 7 and after 10-2. Maybe it's a theme that only started with Nomura but that would not be totally accurate because I have this impression that Nomura had nothing to do with 9 - barring borrowing Vivi for KH2. Plus going against the custom, Marluxia is totally not a silverhair - though silver-haired villainy makes its appearance elsewhere in CoM, in Riku's half of the game (if I'm not mistaken).

Anyway, it kinda makes me think that one may be able to predict who the true villain is in Squeenix productions (at least in FF stuff) by seeing who has the white hair.

And this post so demanded this icon!
mimi_sardinia: (O rly? Ya rly! (Cloud+Vin))
Has anyone else noticed how similar in colouring Baralai and Xehanort are? Both have white hair and dark skin.

This has been Mimi's Random Thought of the Day - brought to you by the pictures in [livejournal.com profile] sirea1182's Yunalai Manifesto.

Well I have taken the first step in reconstructing my FFX sims. I have built the Al Bhed family )

I made a couple of mistakes in contruction of them but they're salvagable without having to start again. Cid's suposed to have a beard and I forgot to change Brother's eyes to Al Bhed spirals but the former can be done with a mirror's "Change Appearance" option and I think I can do the latter with the cosmetic surgery item. Well I hope I can, I'll be quite miffed if I have to remake the family again.

Cid is a slightly adjusted version of the Brother skin, Cid's wife is an adjusted version of Rikku and Cid's sister is a slightly adjested Yuna with blonde hair in a style that covers the fact that Yuna's face has a lock of hair painted on it.

After I've checked to see if I can change Brother's eyes the next step is to remake Auron and a Braska stand-in. Then a Jecht stand-in and a young version of Tidus, then the stragglers - Lulu, Wakka, Paine. Then aging up the kids to teenagehood, kill the OCs and stand-ins and consolidate the rest then port them to Pleasantville and the kids to uni.

Geez, a lot of effort to get these sims into uni! At least I can shortcut a fair bit of that with my colection of modded items and the ever-useful boolprop code.
mimi_sardinia: (Shelke)
I still want to get the family relations between Brother, Rikku and Yuna right before I send them to uni.

First hitch I ran into however is that I can access either the adult or teen skins in the student creation section of the game which is what has given me a renewed will to reconstruct the exact family bonds.

Second... well I actually got an AlBhed family made - Cid, his wife, Brother, Rikku and Yuna's mother... but I forgot that Yuna's mum is Cid's sister and made her his sister-in-law.

The other parts of settling up all this is going to be complex - a Braska stand-in, Auron, a Jecht stand-in, a young version of Tidus.

The real question is whether I can get Yuna looking right if I allow Braska and my OC wifelet for him to have a baby. Will I be able to use plastic surgery to remake her?

Getting a Cid sim is not too hard at least, it's just a matter of tweaking the Brother skin a bit. I don't have clothes that quite fit the ones I recall seeing Cid in but I can make do with the ones I got in Nightlife.

I am thinking of opening a temporary nieghbourhood where I can concentrate on this project. I can move the remnants of these families over to Plesantville when the kids are teens and I have well and truely killed off the OCs and stand-ins.

I guess what I need to do is create a test household and check just how much I can do with the plastic surgery station. After that I'll have a better idea of how far I can go with my attempts to reconstruct Spira.

This is what reading FFX fanfiction does. (Warning (kinda): The fic linked there is an Aurikku... but it's a good one, very sensible and probably very IC for both of them. It's also a WIP.)

I am totally unimpressed with idiots who deface Wikipedia articles that I want to go read.

Just had to do a major restoration on Rikku's article and a few days ago I was unimpressed to find someone had removed Riku's KH2 picture from his article.

Does anyone else find it odd that the two Squeenix characters with the easily-to-confuse names both got annoying alterations?
mimi_sardinia: (More Fun Than A Hole In The Head)
These were all I could think of at this point, I've probably forgotten some - definately in LotR, HP and DBZ.

My masterlist of my pairings history )

Fandoms listed include FFVII, FFVIII, FFIX, FFX and X-2, LotR, Dr. Who, CCS, GW, Smallville, X-Men, PotC, BtVS/A, DCU, Narnia, Apocalyptica RPS, HP, DBZ, BG and USS Sevilia.

And I didn't include threesomes, foursomes and moresomes.

...except the Dr. Who ones.

Well I had a bit of an acident with my sims that has caused my plot for restructuring a few family groups to jump ahead a bit.

Fic Rec

There was an interesting post on [livejournal.com profile] fanficrants a couple of days ago about Tidus' hair colour.

It spawned this fic.

Hilarious reading.

So I am now honour-bound to buy a PS2 as I am now the owner of copies of KH and FFX.

I also have a new pair of shoes that have only the two virtues of being reasonably nice-looking, and cheap. I also have the outfit they were bought to be worn with on laybuy - $140 worth -.-;;

I was also able to det aside some money for online stuff, don't know exactly what it will go to but I am considering paying up this account for two months and finally buying mine and the Bint's Ravenblack vampire those two levels of Stamina. I may see if I can get a short subscription to Simslice too... I'll have to see.

I was in the bathroom just now and came to a conclusion that I could probably pull off cosplaying Yuna - albiet an overweight version of her. XP
My hair is currently in a state where I could - with minimal further styling - pass it off quite well without any need for hair dye.

Though you wouldn't catch me trying to wear the FFX-2 outfit, I really wouldn't inflict my figure on the world in that costume - the FFX one however... well it'd suit my figure (i.e. faaaaaaaaat) better.

Not that I'd ever be able to go to any sort of con where I'd consider cosplaying Yuna in the first place.

I need icons again. Ones of Rikku - preferably 10-2.

Anyone got recs?

Don't worry, found some.

I tested an unused spell in Sims1 - the Friend In Deed spell. It's about the only spell that is directed at pets.

Now I thought it would be a pet version of the Relationship Boost or Smiley Face spells but as it turns out, I was wrong, it turns a pet into a human sim.

So result? I ended up with Braska, the Spira household's cat, turned into a human, and an ugly one at that! NO HAPPY! So I decided that he needed to be killed off.
Killing a sim is rather easy, all you have to do is to go into the Build View and suround them in walls or a fence and then ignore them completely for the next several days.

So now I have a gravestone decorating one corner of the Spira compound and an empty space that I can maybe get Jecht into. While I was considering the issue of getting Lenne into a house with Shuyin it occured to me that Jecht would fit into the Spira house as he's a FFX chara (as opposed to a FFX-2 one) but the fact that the only slot not taken by a human was taken by Braska blocked that. Of course I didn't mourn such a fact much as it was for leftover sims like Jecht that I made the Krammer household (named such because it's head is Edea) but I guess the thing with Braska give me the space to move Jecht in. It'll take while though to actually get him, but that's okay.

Anyway, since returning to playing with them I decided to toss the OC sims because I still had plenty of fandom sims that are in need of placement and it also gave more room for me to spread out a few charas, like making a new household of Rude and Tifa and setting up Shuyin so I can have him and Lenne together.

There's also one lot I was testing how long it took to kill a pet on, and just for the heck of it I also killed the pet's owner. Morbid as it might be I think I might do some more of that and see if I can't build myself a nice sim graveyard. >:D

Bahamut is in D&D! He's apparently the god of Good Dragons and is in direct opposition to Tiamat!

Problem is he doesn't appear on the deity list I have in my favourites. I may end up spamming the Attic about him at some point but whatever, he's now officially an avatar of himself in my fusion idea.

I'm mad

Icon fun

Well I opened my own Photobucket account, though for general pictures I'll probably still be sharing the Bint's account because (A) It's daft uploading it to both hers and mine, and (B) Mine's being used as host for [livejournal.com profile] namomandos's moodtheme.

Said mood theme is something I randomly picked up somewhere and I'd love to put it on this account but this one isn't paid while the Vala's is. (Hell, I made the recent payment on Námo's account, I like being able to oggle his icons!)

Besides, there's something rather amusing about seeing Curufin with a mood icon showing Kuja, or Jareth (from The Labyrinth) with one of Zell. Setting the journal to force the moodtheme on the Friends Page is fun.
