I've just been thinking, over the last few hours since I got thinking about Larsa Solider, about kids in FF games, and it seems that practically all the games since FF7 (since I don't know any of the pre-7 ones well enough to give an opinion) have some sort of Token Kid - either of the Cute Kid, or Smart Kid type.

FFVII - Marlene.
BC - Yuffie.
AC - Denzel (though he shares with Marlene).
DoC - Shelke.
FFVIII - Ellone.
FFIX - Ekio.
FFX - Bahamut's Fayth.
FFX-2 - Shinra.
FFXII - Larsa Solider.

I know, I didn't include FFXI, but I know crap all about 11 and am never likely to bother since it's a MMORPG and my internet connection is crap for things like that.

Also, KH kinda doesn't count, since the lead character is still young either that he scrapes into the "Cute Kid" catagory - or at least he did in KH1, before puberty really hit him. (That makes me wonder, has anyone ever written a fic that actually brings up how much Sora grew while he was asleep between CoM and KH2? That'd be interesting reading.)

This can be counted as Mimi's Not Quite So Random Followup To Her Random Thought of the Day.

To put it simply, the observation on Balarlai's complection being similar to Xehanort's has reminded me of how Squeenix likes to make all of their bad guys (and girls) white-haired.

Let me list the usual suspects: Jenova, Sephiroth, Ultimecia, Kuja, Yunalesca, Baralai, Ansem/Xehanort/Xemnas, Kadaj, Loz and Yazoo, Wiess. All of them are white-haired.

The one who is a little questionable is Baralai - as that manifesto makes note of. He was possessed and really is only as much the true villain of the piece as say, Seifer. But it still means that through the mechanics of possession Shyuin has white hair by proxy.

I would be curious to know the hair colours of villains in other FFs - both before 7 and after 10-2. Maybe it's a theme that only started with Nomura but that would not be totally accurate because I have this impression that Nomura had nothing to do with 9 - barring borrowing Vivi for KH2. Plus going against the custom, Marluxia is totally not a silverhair - though silver-haired villainy makes its appearance elsewhere in CoM, in Riku's half of the game (if I'm not mistaken).

Anyway, it kinda makes me think that one may be able to predict who the true villain is in Squeenix productions (at least in FF stuff) by seeing who has the white hair.

And this post so demanded this icon!

These were all I could think of at this point, I've probably forgotten some - definately in LotR, HP and DBZ.

My masterlist of my pairings history )

Fandoms listed include FFVII, FFVIII, FFIX, FFX and X-2, LotR, Dr. Who, CCS, GW, Smallville, X-Men, PotC, BtVS/A, DCU, Narnia, Apocalyptica RPS, HP, DBZ, BG and USS Sevilia.

And I didn't include threesomes, foursomes and moresomes.

...except the Dr. Who ones.

I want to make a comprehensive list of Espers/Summons/GFs/Eidolons/Aeons whathaveyou.

My source only has FF6 and onwards.

Mrrrr... )

So the common ones are Bahamut, Ifrit, and Shiva - all with 5 games. Second comes in at 4 games with Odin and Phoenix, then Alexander, Carbuncle, Leviathan and Ramuh follow up with 3.

I'm actually surprised Leviathan only holds 3 games.

FFIV has a hell of a lot of Summons, I think FFVIII comes in second (even including all three Bahamuts), FFVII third (if you count the extras and non-Junctionable ones). FFX has the shortest Summon list.

...

This is what I do when I don't feel up to facing all the damn stairs in the D-District Prision.
mimi_sardinia: (Where is the light)
I've never actually done this before, but I just felt like it.

* Final Fantasy VIII - PC edition, english language, Australia Pacific region (region 4).

* Final Fantasy IX - english language, Australia Pacific region (region 4). I'll get a PS2 eventually so I can play it.

* More paid time on this journal.

* More icon space to go with it.

* Fanfic. Preferably any one of: reserected redeemed!Seph/Cloud, Vincent/Cloud, Cid/Cloud, Cid/Cloud/Vincent, Seph/girl!Cloud, Seph/Zack/Cloud, Zack/Cloud/Aeris, Reno/Rude, Veld/Vincent, Tseng/Rufus. Nothing sad though.

Anything else is a bit too much to ask (like the money for getting Fëanor the Computer upgraded so I can run Sims2, or a PS2). (And even then I wouldn't expect the first two from anyone, or that either of the journal ones are all that likely. I'd be quite glad of the fanfic though.)
mimi_sardinia: (Thinking of you)
Okay, so I'm currently reading a Plot Analysis of Final Fantasy IX - not unlike that one I read a few weeks ago about FF7 (actually, I got the URL for this FF9 one from the FF7 one) and something occurs to me:

Sephiroth's plan with geostigma in Advent Children works a very similar way to the Iifa Tree.

The Iifa Tree was basically weakening Gaia (draining it of souls) so Terra could take over - once enough geostigma-perverted souls (negative Lifestream) flooded the Lifestream Sephiroth would be able to take over.

The analysis has already made connections between the creation of Mist in FF9 as being like the production of Mako in FF7, and has also brought up that the whole takeover theme also exists in Spirits Within.

Reading this stuff does another thing, it makes me appreciate how much of common FF themes got put into SW.

I have always had a thing for pairings between enemies, I think I always will, even in fandoms I am not exactly all that knowledgable in )

If you want a list of fic recs from me, go see this post I unmercifully spammed for all my favourites (and gratuitous use of my sparkly new icons!).

Bahamut is in D&D! He's apparently the god of Good Dragons and is in direct opposition to Tiamat!

Problem is he doesn't appear on the deity list I have in my favourites. I may end up spamming the Attic about him at some point but whatever, he's now officially an avatar of himself in my fusion idea.
mimi_sardinia: (Default)
I have been contemplating FF/BG crossovers again - or more specifically a FF/BG fusion.

Crossworld musings )

Well I opened my own Photobucket account, though for general pictures I'll probably still be sharing the Bint's account because (A) It's daft uploading it to both hers and mine, and (B) Mine's being used as host for [livejournal.com profile] namomandos's moodtheme.

Said mood theme is something I randomly picked up somewhere and I'd love to put it on this account but this one isn't paid while the Vala's is. (Hell, I made the recent payment on Námo's account, I like being able to oggle his icons!)

Besides, there's something rather amusing about seeing Curufin with a mood icon showing Kuja, or Jareth (from The Labyrinth) with one of Zell. Setting the journal to force the moodtheme on the Friends Page is fun.

There's no actual Summon/GF/Eidolon/Aeon known as Tiamat, is there? I see again and again in fanfic as a female equivilent of Bahumut and frankly, I wonder where along the line people came up with the idea.

I mean sure, I know of one origin of her, Dungeons and Dragons, where she is a dragon goddess (a dead one in the branch I know best, Forgotten Realms), and I think she originally comes from sumarian mythology but her in FF? Well someone will have to enlighten me on that one.

After getting distracted with the Súlimo household I finally got around to correcting my ommission )

Only I not only added Jecht but also put Lenne in, having finally worked out which head was suposed to be hers.
mimi_sardinia: (Default)
Mir gave me a link to a site full of useful hacked objects that I have been trying out. The garden plots are especially good.

I have also worked out a minor technical issue that was bugging me - Tidus tended to be invisible when he was naked, and also lacked hands when he wasn't. Another reference sent me back to this site - one had actually been to before and had picked up several skins from. This time around I got an idea that maybe if I traded off Tidus' body skin I may be able to solve the invisiblity issue and lo and behold if it didn't work! As funny as the invisible body thing could be it kinda crimped my voyueristic tendencies as it hardly was interesting to have Tidus in bed with anybody else when I couldn't damn-well see what he was doing!

Also, this is not the first case of trading heads and bodies between various versions of the same character, Auron's head comes from that same skin site (Corry's Factory) while his body is from somewhere else. My reasons there is that what little I do know of him he doesn't seem the sort to wear really bright colours and the Corry-skin had his clothes a bit too bright to my mind.
Rikku is the same, I have a total of three skins for her, two of them FFX and one X-2 and I have her with the X-2 head but wearing one of the FFX bodies because frankly, I like the X-2 head but the Spira family, as it is constructed, is pretty-well all FFX (as far as I understand).
Same story with Cloud, I like the head that looks a bit more like the game-version but I have him dressed in the AC outfit and before reinstalling I had Squall dressed in the Leon outfit from KH (though the head from that skin was horrific).

I finally got around to making some more of the Valar families and it seems the average number of members in the is four - husband and wife Valar and two Maiar. I do however have a few odd houses, ones I was finding spots in for outside (non-Silm) characters. Ulmo's household includes the GF Siren (FF8), Mandos includes the Aeon Shiva (FFX) and the Bauglir household (Morgoth's) includes Ultimacia (FF8).
I do believe the Kramer house (Headed by Edea) will be more mixed, being the place where random characters that I can't put elsewhere (Yuffie, Jessie, Paine, Hojo, Alatar (Maia - one of the Blue Wizards)) will go. It kinda fits Edea to have the ragtag leftovers anyway.
Compared with this households the Valentine house, which has two FF7 characters and one FF8 doesn't seem so odd.

The only issue is that I am not sure how I will fit all of these folks into the neighbourhood but I will have to see how I go on that.

I also saw something rather curious when I got it into my head to send Tidus and Yuna on a date, there is some guy who wandered across my view downtown who has Finrod's head while wearing a Galbadian army uniform (from the much lamented Laguna skin whose head I hated). My first thought on it was "Galbadian elf?!!" I have seen this before, in Magic Town - the random mixing of heads and bodies to create NPCs. There's a couple of interesting cases in MT, one with Celebrían's head and a deep red dress, the other with Arwen's head and a somewhat gypsy-like multicoloured dress. It's kind-of amusing to see but that Galbadian elf... well, that was even more so!

Edit: Oh, and just as I remember it, I went and did what I was planning, I bought the Valentine Household a dog and named it Laguna. I still really think that's fitting, Squall having a dog named after him (especially as I don't have a sim of him)!

Oh, and does anyone know a good idea for a family name for a group of FF9 characters? I have skins of Beatrix, Eiko, Garnet, Kuja and Zidane and I don't know anything about FF9!
mimi_sardinia: (Original)
Well we got the Fullhouse pack and did a total reinstallation - pity we didn't know it would whipe out our well-played sims.

I've lost the lot, all of my neighbourhood.

I will be reconstructing them of course, I've already started on doing just that whith the Valentine, Gainsborough, Garden and SeeD families built. There has been one significant change though, Seifer is in the family group as Irvine and Zell and until I have investigated skins available I don't know where Edea will be.

So far all I have done is building their funds again, curtesy of the Rosebud Financial Aid Society. Seifer, Irvine and Zell are on a peice of land but other than some minor chatting and opening the free box of magic stuff I haven't done anything with them yet - even building a house. I'm not sure I will leave them on that property either.

The other familes I have also set back to their starting compsision, meaning the Valentine household is Seph, Cloud and Squall, the Gainsboroughs are Aeris and Zack.

I have yet to build the Spira house again, I want to see what other skins are available. I had problems with the Sulimo house as well because Manwe's skin was not showing up in the character creation section.
I also want to make more elves and reconstruct the F***wit family from my Weirdo neighbourhood. They may not be exactly the same as before though.

I'm not sure I will be able to find skins of Yuffie, Vincent or Cid Highwind - I've looked and the ones I have seen are crappy. I want to see if there a Cid Kramer, find a Rajin (I have Fujin), see if there's a Tseng and who's that FF10 guy, Kimhari?
I still wish I could find a head that I could use for Laguna, I want a Laguna!!!!

In other good things, some of the items I simply couldn't use are now usable. I hope I don't get more crashes for using them though.

We'll see how it goes, we have to go to bed soon though, early doctor's apointment tomorrow.

Off the top of your head, right now, what ten 'ships would you likely drop what you're doing to read fic for? Or, alternately, what are the top ten ships that you'll give a fic a chance for, or that you've been dying to write, or that you've been dying to read... These can be new loves, old flames, or something in between. Explain if you like, but you don't have to. Then tell us 3 things these ships say about you. Leave a comment about what you think these ships say about me, then repeat in your own LJ.

Don't have to do that last part unless you really want to. Like Ran, I just copied the meme.
