I was trying to find a Truten fic I read a looooooooooong time ago and tried FF.net's search engine and there's a DBZ/FF7 crossover!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

WAAAAAAAAAAAH!!!!!! MAKE IT GO AWAY!!!!!!!!!

What's worse is it's het, Cloud/Tifa, Aeris/Sephiroth and Goku/Chichi! *Meeps* There's only one of those pairings I'd read and I bet that fic can't make it even half believable if it tried! (A task I am well aware is not easy as one half of the pairing killed the other!)

It's things like this that make me regret knowing anything about DBZ!

I was finally updating my icon collection and got thinking about character bashing.

Now unlike some of the critics on [livejournal.com profile] fanficrants I don't mind character bashing - within reason though. It can be funny to read even if the bashed character is horribly OOC. On the other hand I like fics that don't bash those poor saps who bear the brunt of such abuse and even moreso when the author admits to disliking the character but states they are actively trying not to bash.

But when it comes down to it, what is the basic reason behind bashing? I personally blame shipping.

So you like seeing a certain two people put together huh? Well bully for you! Oh wait... what about him/her? You're gonna say they did WHAT? Uhh-huh... *Backs off slowly.*

See what I mean?

So where am I going here? Umm, I don't know. Shipping engenders bashing, that's what I think.

A past history of reading on both [livejournal.com profile] bad_rpers_suck and [livejournal.com profile] fanficrants has left me with some degree of knowledge of some of the more common bad descriptions given for characters. In particular, descriptions for eyes that call them "orbs", "optics" and "oculars".

I just ran into the last of those and whoa mamma! It sounds waaaaaaay too weird, especially when it's suposed to be a complementary description from the POV of a character who has a secret crush on the object of their attention!

And the kicker is the story is actually pretty good, they just picked a euphemism that hit me badly.

You know what's interesting?

Reading a review page for a badfic that is, except for maybe one or two cases, all flames.

Read the fic, read the flames.
