Thsi is the second time I have tried to get Nienna settled back home after buying pets only to have it crash!
I suspect it has nothing to do with the pets and something to do with something in the house itself that I need to not have there. I will have to test the C&C objects that are unproven and hope that fixes it.
The annoying thing is I am going to have to erase Nienna again, remake her, refurnish the house and then get her pets again.

Mir gave me a link to a site full of useful hacked objects that I have been trying out. The garden plots are especially good.
I have also worked out a minor technical issue that was bugging me - Tidus tended to be invisible when he was naked, and also lacked hands when he wasn't. Another reference sent me back to this site - one had actually been to before and had picked up several skins from. This time around I got an idea that maybe if I traded off Tidus' body skin I may be able to solve the invisiblity issue and lo and behold if it didn't work! As funny as the invisible body thing could be it kinda crimped my voyueristic tendencies as it hardly was interesting to have Tidus in bed with anybody else when I couldn't damn-well see what he was doing!
Also, this is not the first case of trading heads and bodies between various versions of the same character, Auron's head comes from that same skin site (Corry's Factory) while his body is from somewhere else. My reasons there is that what little I do know of him he doesn't seem the sort to wear really bright colours and the Corry-skin had his clothes a bit too bright to my mind.
Rikku is the same, I have a total of three skins for her, two of them FFX and one X-2 and I have her with the X-2 head but wearing one of the FFX bodies because frankly, I like the X-2 head but the Spira family, as it is constructed, is pretty-well all FFX (as far as I understand).
Same story with Cloud, I like the head that looks a bit more like the game-version but I have him dressed in the AC outfit and before reinstalling I had Squall dressed in the Leon outfit from KH (though the head from that skin was horrific).
I finally got around to making some more of the Valar families and it seems the average number of members in the is four - husband and wife Valar and two Maiar. I do however have a few odd houses, ones I was finding spots in for outside (non-Silm) characters. Ulmo's household includes the GF Siren (FF8), Mandos includes the Aeon Shiva (FFX) and the Bauglir household (Morgoth's) includes Ultimacia (FF8).
I do believe the Kramer house (Headed by Edea) will be more mixed, being the place where random characters that I can't put elsewhere (Yuffie, Jessie, Paine, Hojo, Alatar (Maia - one of the Blue Wizards)) will go. It kinda fits Edea to have the ragtag leftovers anyway.
Compared with this households the Valentine house, which has two FF7 characters and one FF8 doesn't seem so odd.
The only issue is that I am not sure how I will fit all of these folks into the neighbourhood but I will have to see how I go on that.
I also saw something rather curious when I got it into my head to send Tidus and Yuna on a date, there is some guy who wandered across my view downtown who has Finrod's head while wearing a Galbadian army uniform (from the much lamented Laguna skin whose head I hated). My first thought on it was "Galbadian elf?!!" I have seen this before, in Magic Town - the random mixing of heads and bodies to create NPCs. There's a couple of interesting cases in MT, one with Celebrían's head and a deep red dress, the other with Arwen's head and a somewhat gypsy-like multicoloured dress. It's kind-of amusing to see but that Galbadian elf... well, that was even more so!
Edit: Oh, and just as I remember it, I went and did what I was planning, I bought the Valentine Household a dog and named it Laguna. I still really think that's fitting, Squall having a dog named after him (especially as I don't have a sim of him)!
Oh, and does anyone know a good idea for a family name for a group of FF9 characters? I have skins of Beatrix, Eiko, Garnet, Kuja and Zidane and I don't know anything about FF9!

Well I have most of the FF families on peices of land now, though I have yet to do much more than a little landscaping.
I am glad of one thing, there's a tool that allows one to regreen (grow grass) on land that one has been shaping which I once saw a friend use a long while ago (about when Vacation had first come out) and I can now use that. It makes the whole landscaping a lot more sightly now I can remove those ugly dirt-brown patchs where I've altered the terain.
I settles the Turk family (same as before, Rufus, Reno, Rude and Elena) into a prebuilt house - no. 2 Sim lane, one of the old premade houses. I have had them visit a couple of the shopping districts - well, Rufus went downtown for a while and came home with some roses that he gave Elena - and I took 'em to the petstore and now they have a cat and a dog.
I also have created several Valar families - Sulimo, Mahal, Mandos, Lorien - but I am yet to find them land yet. If I have to, I'll remove all the premade sims to make space for all the sims I'm planning.

Sims Letdown
31 March 2005 23:55Well we got the Fullhouse pack and did a total reinstallation - pity we didn't know it would whipe out our well-played sims.
I've lost the lot, all of my neighbourhood.
I will be reconstructing them of course, I've already started on doing just that whith the Valentine, Gainsborough, Garden and SeeD families built. There has been one significant change though, Seifer is in the family group as Irvine and Zell and until I have investigated skins available I don't know where Edea will be.
So far all I have done is building their funds again, curtesy of the Rosebud Financial Aid Society. Seifer, Irvine and Zell are on a peice of land but other than some minor chatting and opening the free box of magic stuff I haven't done anything with them yet - even building a house. I'm not sure I will leave them on that property either.
The other familes I have also set back to their starting compsision, meaning the Valentine household is Seph, Cloud and Squall, the Gainsboroughs are Aeris and Zack.
I have yet to build the Spira house again, I want to see what other skins are available. I had problems with the Sulimo house as well because Manwe's skin was not showing up in the character creation section.
I also want to make more elves and reconstruct the F***wit family from my Weirdo neighbourhood. They may not be exactly the same as before though.
I'm not sure I will be able to find skins of Yuffie, Vincent or Cid Highwind - I've looked and the ones I have seen are crappy. I want to see if there a Cid Kramer, find a Rajin (I have Fujin), see if there's a Tseng and who's that FF10 guy, Kimhari?
I still wish I could find a head that I could use for Laguna, I want a Laguna!!!!
In other good things, some of the items I simply couldn't use are now usable. I hope I don't get more crashes for using them though.
We'll see how it goes, we have to go to bed soon though, early doctor's apointment tomorrow.

More Sims, again
30 March 2005 15:50A few things of interest, at least 3 times already I have got a message when Leon gets home from school saying that he ( got §100 from grandpa. )
So while I may not have created a Laguna sim (and unless I find a male head with shoulder-length black hair that I could accept as him there won't be - hell, I've alredy removed the head of the skin I had, I hated it so much!) his presence is felt in the Valentine family.
Cloud is now CEO of his software company but I wonder how great it can be if he has to wear ( suits like this. )
Also, I finally reached Seph's next promotion and I supose I could be glad Cid doesn't know about it because Seph got made an ( astronaut. )
I also had some fun last night in the Weirdo neighbourhood where I made a family for the specfic purpose of totally running them down. I found out that if kids get bad enough in their grades they get shipped off to military school and if an adult sim gets sick enough of a bad household they decide to walk. It's also fun to prod sims into fights but the attacker has to really hate the one they're attacking.
I ended up taking the easy way out with the remainder though, I gave them a stove and a bench and waited for the inevitable fire - another reason why in serious households I give them microwaves until they have some cooking skills.
And on the matter of fires, had a lovely one set by the damn genie in the Valentine house, lost the computer, the desk and chair, the VR goggles (which are usually put on the desk nest to the computer), two rugs and a couch. It took two days to clean up the ash left behind and that was with the robot, the maid (the robot is less than totally reliable) and some help from the family as well.

Sim Life Goes On
29 March 2005 04:55Okay so, I rebuilt the Valentine house - you know I have a great deal of fun letting sims who have just moved into a property stand around for a while. They do that patting-the-stomache-in-contentment-thing a lot and virtually pounce on visitors and the newspaper.
I decided I was tired of fighting to keep the relationships in the house on the level with one half of each couple off at work all day and got Squall to quit his job and in turn finding one for Cloud.
Again all the spare time unemployed sims have to do stuff that furthers their skills has come in handy, as Cloud has already had six promotions in his IT career. He is currently a computer game designer.
Meanwhile I am still struggling to reach Seph's next promotion with him needing more skills in mechanical, logic and body plus 6 friends. So while I've knocked over the logic one and the mech one I have still to attack the body requirement. Friends I can let slip a bit until after and do that the sneaky way - building the friendships by inviting Seph over to their houses, where his job is a non-issue.
Meanwhile, in persuit of that logic point Seph got potion-making but left the potion sitting there. The first one caused a bit of stress - mainly for Cloud, knocking his stats for a loop that took a few days (including a sickday off of work) to fix. The second potion turned out interesting too, a love potion, and it hit the same person as before (quite a while ago now, Seph drank it but it went to a good cause, it got Seph one of his promotions) the victim - ( Edea ).
In almost a repeat of that a sim-day or so later Aeris was cleaning a certain piece of brassware and predictably got the genie, wished for love (mainly to see if it'd work), chose female and got ( Selphie )!
Meanwhile, I have a second neighbourhood I've started, it's theme is just plain weird. I've been diging through the skins I have and have been putting together oddball families from them and then putting them in houses of "inovative" design.
( All about the weirdos )

Okay, I made a mistake about the situation between Tidus and Paine, Tidus loves Paine but she only thinks of him as friend. This is good because Tidus is now involved with Rikku and if Paine doesn't reciprocate it means she won't be slapping Tidus. So as long as Tidus doesn't decide to kiss Paine while Rikku is looking and I'm not he's in for a nice lovelife.
Meanwhile I finally got Auron to move house! After turning down three proposals from Quistis (two on the grounds that he can't consider such a momentous decision on an empty stomache, the other because he was uncomformable and wanted to sit down) so I sent him off for the night. In between that fiasco and the next time I invited him over to the Heartly household I went and played with his own house - the Spira household - and while there I did a test and Quistis accepted a proposal from him. I didn't save that one though, the wedding photos loved crap with them standing in the corner next to the teleporters. Just my luck that I did too because next time I opened the game I went to the Heartly House first and tried again during that turn in getting Quistis to propose and this time Auron accepted.
So now Auron's moved house and Tidus has moved in to share a room (and a bed) with Rikku leaving the Spira house with two superfluous bedrooms. I ended up demolishing the house and rebuilding on a bit cozier scale, though the third bathroom ended up a bit of an afterthought, taking a chunk out of the outdoor balcony, but considering the toilet issues that were arising between 4 housemates and 2 visitors that had dropped by (Rufus and one of the Pleiades girls) it was a nessecary addition.
I'm seriously considering rebuilding the Heartly's house again as well, it's so damn big! That's what I get though for setting it up for massive parties I guess. I'm also still considering changing the Valentine house and also doing something about consolidating the SeeD, Garden and Gainsborough families (Edea & Seifer, Irvine & Zell, Zack & Maia) either into each other or into other family groups so I can consider hunting more skins to add more characters to the neighbourhood, though if I do that I may consider withdrawing the Pleiades and the Sulimo families in favour of FF sims.
I can really ramble about my sims can't I?

( And baby makes... five? )
Edit: Did the renovations and didn't have to totally wipe out the up stairs either - just did a bit of furniture juggling, room resizing wall repainting and door and window relocation. And they still have a study!
*Mutters to self* Now I aught to consider working out how to include a third bathroom...

Sim Dramas
6 March 2005 19:51Well things in the Valentine household of my sims (Sephiroth, Squall, Cloud, Aeris) is currently in a lovely confusing situation.
So, Seph was with Squall and Cloud was with Aeris but now Squall has a job that conflicts with Seph's and romantic situations in-house have gotten rather complicated when Seph made moves on Cloud and Squall made moves on Aeris.
It's a pity really that sims can't live in happy polyamory because as it is, someone is going to get slapped with some measure of regularity.
I'm also fighting to keep all of them happy on a social scale - especially Squall and Aeris.
I'm also fighting with my latest load of new skins as I apparently have at least one file that is causing crashes amongst the male child skins I got. I still haven't gotten around to checking the female skins either to see if I have any crashes there.

Well I got a copy of the Sims 1 collection (Fullhouse) on laybuy - it's a pack with all the expansion packs in it and costs $99.95 (well, I think it had the .95). I did a price check while I was in EB Games and the expansions are $30 each seperately so to buy all the ones I don't have I would be paying $150 to get them seperately.
Also, while I was in there, I noted that they sell secondhand gaming consoles and in idle curiousity I asked about the Playstation they had and the guy said it was a PS1.
I'd consider it but I don't know if I could get a hold of a copy of FF7 anyway and is FF8 a PS1 game too? Either way, they'd both be hard to get.
Oh and I'm glad the Bint is the one who has to worry about bills, not that she doesn't spread the angst around a bit. :P

Love and Marriage
24 February 2005 21:55Oh I love chattering about my Sim neighbourhood, don't I? Well you're in for another one! This time I've had a couple of marriages!
After having Riona get a second lover (Irvine - which is kind of an irony as my Sim-Riona is in love with Sim-Selphie whereas canon!Sephie is - according to what little I know about FF8 - involved with Irvine) via the magic lamp and while exploring the options of what Riona could do to Irvine in that state I noticed that at that level - once a romance has been declared - proposals are available.
Later reading of the manual revealed that proposals are only available between opposite gender couples and are the only way to get a sim of the opposite gender to move in and join the proposor's family.
So, armed with this knowledge I quite deliberately fostered a friendship between Cloud and Aeris (on virtue that he already was 'warm' with her - had the highest friendship rating with her) and now Aeris is a new member of the Valentine household.
This of course left Zack all alone the "The House That Aeris Decorated" (though I did him a bit of a favour and rebuilt the house smaller and less pink) so I had him throw a killer party which managed at one point to have every person in the neighbourhood plus Drew Carey there (it one of those things, like the Mime and some weird hair-coloured gatecrasher, that Drew Carey turns up at lively parties).
All in all the party actually didn't help a great deal (though he's probably aquainted with more people now) and for a few days after I was struggling to improve his flagging social score. I managed however to fix the social score AND gain my goal of getting him a housemate in one so now the Gainsborough Household (Zack kept Aeris' name after she left) consists of Zack and Maia (ne Pleiades - Atlas ain't going to really miss her, one less daughter to buy a bed for when I get around to building his house).
It'll be interesting to see how mixed-up I can get this neighbourhood in the future!

Sim Romance Two!
23 February 2005 13:31Well I gave one of the other households some playtime and in only three sim-days I already have two of the residents in a romance!
( Riona and Sephie, sitting in a... vibromatic heart bed??!!! )
Now I think I need to cultivate an outside friendship for Seph and I wonder how long before Riona and Sephie get an adoption offer?

Well The Valentine household (Seph, Squall and Cloud) got offered the chance to adopt but when the baby started crying in the middle of the night it took me a bit long to get Squall up to feed it so I got a neglect warning and when it cried again after Squall finished feeding it Domestic Services decided to take it away again.
Bummer huh?
I wonder if the game will give them another chance?

Remember I mentioned in my Sim update that Sephiroth has been getting along with Squall? ( Well it's become the Great Sim Romance )
