This may not be something northern hemishpere dwellers would care to try at this time of the year but it's great for summer - especially hot summers.
This actually needs some planning ahead, like at least a day's worth.
First step is to make lemonade ice.
4-5 heaped tablespoons of caster sugar (really fine cooking grade sugar).
700mls (25 oz.s) of water.
Around 50 mls (2 oz.s) of lemon juice (this is only aproximate so more may be needed, depending on taste).
mix sugar and water together until the sugar is disolved. Pour in lemon juice. Add extra lemon juice as you wish.
place lemonade in ice-cube trays. I usually get two trays worth. Place trays in the freezer overnight.
Next day, once the lemonade ice is frozen:
Place one tray's worth of lemonade cubes in a blender.
Add 600-700 mls (20-24 oz.s) of orange juice in blender with ice.
Blend until ice has been crushed.
Serve in however many glasses/cups you can get out of it (I have been known to slowly drink the whole lot).
Optional extras can be added, like extra flavoured ice, other flavoured fruit juice, even whole fruit (something I must try tomorrow with the second icetray...). The one of these I made today I added three heaped tablespoons of psyllium* husks as a fibre suplement. I'm sure that if someone wanted to something alcoholic could be added.
* Spelling may be wrong, that is just Mum's guess at it.
Also, I'm sure this could be altered in numerable ways by changing what is frozen into the ice cubes, what sort of juice is used, etc. I happen to love orange juice but I have this idea in the back of my mind of freezing black current juice and blending it into apple juice.
Anyway, good hot weather drink.
