I HAD A RUN-IN WITH THE MIDGAR FUCKING ZOLOM!!!!!

One word: OWIE!

Dammit! The chocobos are annoying! I tried catching them but it's fucking HARD!

And I didn't save at all so I have to go through Cloud's story in Kalm all over again. One the other hand, I saw where that "war buddies" icon that has Cloud and Sephiroth holding hands came from - it's real easy to get Cloud in that position in the flashback.

Oh, and can I just say? Chibi-sprite Sephiroth is CUTE!

Oh, and I'm also depressed. I read a post that had details of an interview of Nomura and frankly I didn't really like some of the things stated in it - namely about the whole situation with who was in control - Sephiroth or Jenova.

AND I SAW THE EYEBALL BOOBIES!!!!

Yeah, I'm in a nutty mood.

Not familiar with this at all, but unless it comes from Sakaguchi, I can't say I'd put full belief in it.

Random Facts

- There's a lot more languages in the FFVII world besides Japanese.

-Apparently during the remade scenes of the game's last battle, Cait Sith doesn't have the fat moogle due to workload issues?

- The representation of the Lifestream was hard to create.

- There's a meaning to the number of birds seen flying over the mounts of wreckage, but they don't say what it is.

- There's a meaning to the angel statue, but they didn't say what.

- Healin was designed based on a hot spring resort. There's slopes for Rufus up to the entrance, but since thinking it's be a struggle for him to get up them they designed an elevator. But it doesn't show up at all in the film. Nomura laments its loss. The wheelchair was also motion captured, and is still in the studio.

- Rufus's left hand is hidden, but he has Jenova's head at that point in time. There were some people doing the commentary who didn't know about that.

- Marlene originally threw a rock at Loz. It was changed to Materia later (along with the addition of the scene where Marlene looks at the box before).

- Some of the commentary staff asked what was that black thing that appeared when Kadaj stepped into the water, to which someone replied that it was the the dye from his clothes bleeding. Really, it's the will/'shinen' overflowing from Kadaj that's flowing into the water, like Kadaj himself (being a 'shinentai'/remnants) flowing into the water.

- The reason the children's movements are quite super-human is because they drank the water mixed with Kadaj's will, and Sephified them.

- Shogo Suzuki, who plays Vincent, did the title call/said the title in the trailers at first. They hadn't decided to cast him as Vincent at the time, but apparently the title call is what triggered it.

- During production of the game the tips of Vincent's boots were rounded, but Yoshinori Kitase [producer] told them to "make them pointier" so they were changed to the pointy ones you see now. The reason he asked for them changed was that they 'didn't fit Vincent's character', but the meaning behind this isn't explained.

- The scene with the Kadaj and Rufus in the building was added later. There's a meaning behind the '13' on the building they're in, but they didn't say what.

- The name of the Bahamut in the film is "Bahamut SHIN" (Tremor). This name was only revealed with the figure, so it's not well known. The names of FFVII's Bahamuts come from old Japanese fighter planes. (KAI/Neo, REISHIKI/Zero, SHIN/Tremor).

- The reason Bahamut Shin is digging where the memorial statue was is because Kadaj ordered him, believing Jenova's head was there.

- Nomura didn't design Yuffie or Barret's outfits. Yuffie's was done by some of the female staff, and Barret's by the art director Yuusuke Naora. Barret's tattoo was design by Luz (who made the cap and T-shirt from the boxset).

- The scene where everyone helps Cloud jump up towards Bahamut Shin is called the 'Relay Battle', and is a homage to the scene from the game's ending where when Cloud reachs up towards the light Aeris is holding out her hand.

- Rufus' gun was originally a small design that could be hidden in his sleeve.

- Kadaj, Loz and Yazoo's bikes have a machinegun installed in the front. Even though it isn't used in the film, during the early stages there were scenes where they used them.

- The scene where water bursts out in the church was a homage to the game's ending where the Lifestream flows out from the ground. For that reason, the camera angle was made the same.

- There was a scene where Kadaj and Cloud fought on top of debris, climbing up it, but it was cut.

- The scene where Kadaj looked down on Cloud was planned to have the rest of the party members gather around as well.

- For the scene where Kadaj absorbs Jenova, there was a plan for him to absorb it by eating Jenova. (O_O)

- The Sephiroth battle was originally planned to take place at dusk.

- The black substance Sephiroth summoned was a kind of negative Lifestream, from the people who had died of Geostigma.

- Advent Children was made with the theme of 'family'.

- Since they had really wanted a scene showing Tifa and Aerith's connection, they added the "so you've been with us all along" scene.

- During production the scene where Aerith put her hand on Cloud's forhead and says 'mother?' Cloud's eyes were initially supposed to be open during the scene.

- The scenes where the wolf appears are at the cliff where Zack was killed, the Forgotten Capital and the church. The wolf symbolizes Cloud's feelings of regret towards the events associated in these places. Once he's able to settle all these the wolf (Cloud's feelings) return to normal and disappears. (Wolf = Cloud's scene of regret.)

- Casting Red XIII was apparently difficult.

- The scene where the children jump into the water and Aerith and Zack appear wasn't changed at all since it was completed. It's the scene they most wanted to show since the start of development.

Q & A

- Who is Kadaj talking to at the start?

Here’s a couple of hints, try to work it out yourself.
・Yazoo and Loz are chasing Cloud so at least it’s not going to be Cloud or one of his friends
・It’s someone who yells
・Since Kadaj says ‘put on the President’, it’s clear that it isn’t going to be Rufus
・If it’s someone who would likely be near the President, then it’s probably one of the Turks

- What’s the name of that city? Is that Midgar?

The city where Tifa’s bar is and where she and the orphans live is ‘Edge’, a new city built around Midgar. The place where the Turks and Rufus are is ‘Healin’. Towards the end the fights take place in Midgar.

- Why is Rufus covered by that cloth?

(From: Prologue p.60)
Why is Rufus in the wheelchair most of the time?
Nomura: It’s a disguise. Rufus is very self-confident and like attention, so you could say it’s an act he’s playing for himself.

- What's the meaning behind the ribbons Cloud and Tifa are wearing?

- In one scene there’s a ribbon on Cloud’s arm.
Nomura: The whole team are wearing those pink ribbons.

- Are they some kind of protective charm?
Nomura: They’re wearing them in memory of someone, so they won’t forget about them.

Location of the ribbons:
Cloud: Left arm, hidden until that last part of the film
Tifa: Left arm
Barret: Left wrist
Vincent: Right arm
Yuffie: Left arm
Cid: Left arm
Cait Sith: Left arm/wrist
Red XIII: Front left leg, just above the bangle
Marlene: Tied in her hair

- What’s a box of materia doing in a place like that?

(From: Prologue p. 61)
- Is Yuffie still running around collecting materia?
Nomura: No. Yuffie’s busy, and it’s dangerous to have them around so she gives the material to Cloud. But Cloud’s not bothered so he leaves them laying around for Marlene to pick up and throw (laughs)

- Isn't the Forgotten Capital a long way from Edge?

Edge is on the outskirts of Midgar, and the Forgotten Capital is to the north of Midgar, with an ocean in-between. Maybe the Turks dropped them if, if they went in a straight line it shouldn’t be too long. More importantly, how'd they get through without the Luna Harp… Maybe they still have it from back in FFVII.

- What is Cloud’s 'sin'?

Not being able to save people important to him. In FFVII, you saw how Cloud couldn’t save some people dear to him. Though he wasn’t the sole one responsible or to blame for it, to him ‘not being able to save them’ is a heavy ‘sin’ to bare.
When Vincent tells him that he “never tried (to atone for his sins)”, Cloud is taken aback by it. “It’s not if they can be atone for, but trying to see if they can or not that’s important.” When he answers Vincent with “I’ll let you know how it goes”, it might be replying back to when Vincent said “I’m atoning for my sin by sleeping.”

by [identity profile] mimi-sardinia.livejournal.com
- Where’s the phone shop?

In the Forgotten Capital when Marlene says she wants to talk to Tifa, Cloud looks for the phone he lost during the fight with Kadaj. Marlene asked Vincent if he has one, but he opens his cape to show he doesn’t. Upon seeing this Marlene says how it’s unbelievable (that someone doesn’t own a phone).
・He was really hurt by this
・When Cloud says “I’ll let you know how it goes” he makes a phone gesture (holding his hand up to his ear)
If you watch the digest included with AC, you’ll see if he buys a phone or not.

- Didn’t Tseng die?

When you speak to him in FFVII he says “I’m… still alive...,” then goes silent. A great majority of people took this as meaning he died. It looks like he was resuced while Cloud’s group was inside and survived.

- Why does Kadaj scream when he looks inside the box?

(From: Advent Pieces’ replica script)
The box has been damaged by Cloud. Kadaj checks that it is Mother’s box, and looks happy. However, when the box was damaged so were the contents. His expression changes to one of shock and sadness as he clutches the box. Kadaj yells. He wonders if it wasn’t Cloud who damaged it but Rufus.

- Why doesn’t Cloud’s group use materia?

Unknown, perhaps they’re strong enough without them?

- What was the last skill Cloud used in the Sephiroth battle?

According to the commentary, it’s called ‘Omnislash ver.5’. Why it’s ver.5 is unknown, perhaps there were multiple revisions during production.

Cloud's new Limit Break is Choukyuu Bushin Hakazan Ver. 5. This translates literally as Super-Ultimate War God Supreme Killing, but was changed to Omnislash for the English version. So, Omnislash Ver. 5.

Cloud's new sword is called "First Tsurugi", or First Sword. It might just be that that's the title of the first of his six swords.

- What do they mean by ‘Mother’?

The ‘Mother’ Kadaj and his brothers are talking about is Jenova. The ‘mother’ Cloud mutters at the end might be him feeling the warmth of the hand on his forehead.

- What were Kadaj, Yazoo and Loz?

Large masses of Sephiroth’s scattered consciousness that materialized. Since they are only parts they don’t have much knowledge regarding Sephiroth, but they have an instinct to perform the Reunion and are trying to retrieve Jenova and be restored to Sephiroth. But, they don’t necessarily want that. Kadaj was the only one who could become Sephiroth. In the end they returned to the Lifestream.

In other words, they are remnants ('shinentai') of Sephiroth.

- Who was the lead villain, Jenova or Sephiroth?

Sephiroth. Jenova was just being used for it’s Reunion function, and doesn’t seem to have an intellect.
This is from Sephiroth’s introduction page in the Ultimania Omega.
In FFVII Sephiroth’s will was stronger than Jenova’s, so Sephiroth took charge over it. Once they left Midgar, the Sephiroth that appears in front of Cloud’s group is actually Jenova. After
leading them to Nibelhelm they’re able to go north, but [Cloud] is told by Sephiroth to ‘bring him the Black Materia’ and they head south where he appears.

- Is Aerith’s VA the same as Yuna’s from FFX?

No, it’s Maaya Sakamoto. [JP Yuna was played by Mayuko Aoki, who did work on motion capture for AC, apparently doing Tifa’s “did we lose to memories?” scene]

- Is there a meaning behind the number of birds?

There’s 29 birds that fly past. There’s a theory that it’s because there were 29 main staff members working on FFVII, but it isn’t clear if that's the truth.

- Any little Easter eggs?

Confirmed:
・ On a sign behind Tifa and Denzel has an image of FFVII Cloud
・ The sign that falls on Rude is for the musical LOVELESS

- What was the water Kadaj made the children drink in the Forgotten Capital?

To activate the Jenova cells in the bodies of those infected with Geostigma, Kadaj melded his own will with the water. He thought that the reason they made them drink it is to help with finding their Mother, by activating the cells they can resonate with Jenova's main body, .

- What's the connection between the water (rain) that could cure Geostigma and Aerith?

That was something like holy water, produced by Aerith's limit break "Great Gospel."

- Who's Denzel? Is Tifa his mother?

Denzel is a new character for AC. Tifa isn't his mother, she's just looking after him as an orphan.

- Why is Rufus in a wheelchair?

His legs are weak from the injuries he recieved in the explosion of the Shin-ra Building and the effects of Geostigma.

- What's with Cid's "Shut up! Just jump then! Jump!!" line?

'Jump' is a skill for the Dragoons in the FF series, and one of Cid's limit breaks. Though he's telling everyone else to Jump, he's the only one who can actually use it.

- What's '498 years before' mean?

The first scene in AC (with Red XIII) happens 500 years after FFVII. AC's story is set 498 years before that, 2 years after FFVII.

- I heard about a video for a remake of FFVII?

It was a technical demo, a recreation of the game’s opening using the PS3. It wasn’t a movie, but actual polygons.

From the Ultimania Omega staff interview, Nomura had some comments along these lines:

・A lot of the FFVII staff are in the Kingdom Hearts team
・If they were to make one then they think the people involved with FFVII should make it
・They really don’t have time, to it would be impossible to make it within 5 years (Kitase)
・If they had to choose between FFVII-2 and a brand new game, they’d pick the new game.

Random fact : Every character in the movie is at Level 99. Cloud is at a level above 99. (Woah~! O.o)

Nomura: "AC is a film made by 'Japanese people'. In Hollywood, I think there's this trend that the meaning of every scene has to be clearly shown, but this film isn't necessarily like that. The viewer is free to decide how they interprate or enjoy what we've made. The staff have their own answers to everything included throughout the film, such as the angel statue. But even if someone who watches it interpretes it differently, then that's still another possible answer. I guess 'comparing answers' could be one of the ways to enjoy the film. I think AC is the kind of film that people will want to talk about when they've watched it."

Holy Info-dump, Batman!

[livejournal.com profile] wickedorin posted a link to the site that most of that's posted on, so I've seen it... just wasn't sure if it was more or less than what I'd found (more).

Random fact : Every character in the movie is at Level 99. Cloud is at a level above 99.

Cloud's been playing Disgaea... My highest level Disgaea character is a wimpy 653. But she's only been around for about 175 hours.

But I had an all-level-100 FFVIII party and they still sucked, so I can't say anything.

Probably because it seems to be a staple of the yaoi fandom that she was controlling him, not the other way around.

Yeah, because it's easier to write 'oh, not crazy anymore' Sephiroth as opposed to 'really fucked up childhood leading to absolute insanity' Sephiroth.

Does change one idea for that A/U fic we've been batting around though.

Yeah, but it'll depend solely on how Vin raises Seph, really. I'd almost, almost trust Seph to attempt to warp Jenova-power to use to ensure his final freedom (though I guess godhood might still be kinda tempting, eh?).
