So, today has been a hot, sweaty, dusty shmozzle. Why?
Mum and I have put both of our half-yearly advances into a pile of new funiture - a new recliner for Mum (I'm going to take over her old one, once the new one arrives - it's not due for a few more weeks), a new desk for me, and a pile of bookcases. The bookcases are all Ikea ones and are currently in their flat packs, under the front window (and taking up a fair bit of floor space).
This morning I was doing what I could to get the desk corner cleaned out. Once the old desk was out, there was a terrible lot of dust that needed to be brushed and vacuummed up before the new desk could be put in.
The desk - not an Ikea one (it came from Super Amart, a relatively low cost furniture store) came in 4 main pieces - two cabinets, the desktop that goes between them and a leg that supports the back corner of the desktop. One of the cabinets has draws, the other is one big cupboard with shelves. There's also a keyboard drawer.
Anyway, we eventually got it put together in the corner, Mum found some old clothing rack she's had for years (she apparently used to take it to Big Camp) that she's got into the space between the right side of the desk and the front of the freezer so we're not hanging clothing on the steps any more (the step we did that on has all sorts of terrible scratching from wire hangers over the years).
I still have a 40cm Billy bookcase waiting to be put in next to the desk, once we get the pantry moved out a bit. That'll hopefully ive some more shelving space for the corner.
There's still boxes and bags of stuff that was all over the old desk laying around the loungeroom, cluttering everything up even more than the flat packs are doing. I can't really start dealing with them until the mini-Billy is up and in place.
The other bookshelves are two Expedites - 5x5 cube shelf units - which are going against the wall and the staircase either side of the loungeroom, an 80cm Billy (full width) and a Benno - a CD/DVD case - which are replacing the bookcase in my room. I hope when we get the junk cleared enough to put those two in I can get my new valance put on the bed. I like valances, they make beds look nice.
It's going to take a while for me to get to the new layout - I'm not used to having a keyboard drawer.
