You know the problem with ideas like that? As I get older, I understand better the logistics that might occur in such a situation.

Let's face it, I'm a fat, lazy internet addict who has zero fighting skills to my name. I'm fine in my normal modern world life, but dump me in some of the worlds I am a fan of? I'd be Extra #3 who ends up a smear on the landscape.

Now if this trip to Fantasy Land included me having awesome magic skills downloaded into my brain so I had some way to survive the perils of such places while I was there, that'd be a bit different.

As for where, probably my favourite world is Faerûn, but not if I have to go to 4E Faerûn. Other than that, send me to a generic "Modern Earth But With Magic". That'd be fun.

This is generally my thought on it. Like 'I'd love to go live in a Gundam universe'... except I'd just be a boring civilian watching Gundams on the news and hoping not to get slaughtered. ^^;;

And for all the other modern world fantasies I'm a fan of, that'd be pretty much where I'd be too - at home, probably missing the news of big events (that, given some of my fandoms*, would be translated into terrorist attacks or freak natural disasters)


* Transformers would get terrorist attacks, SPN more often than not natural disasters (though the Ilchester convent (4.22/5.01) was also a terrorist attack (it was Lucifer really, but you know, news reports).

Nevermind that I'm a pacifist irl (and through the religion I was raised as) -- so I wouldn't even feel comfortable being a giant warmachine mechanic or anything...

This so makes me want to work on fanzines I'd conceptualized after the first TF movie in 2007 -- basically written wholly in-verse as members of the giant-alien-robot fanclub. Should really still do that someday.

Sounds fun.

It admittedly reminds me of the SPN in-universe novels - near the end of season 4 it's revealed there's books of everything Sam and Dean have done. The books have fans. the fans write fanfic. Including slash. Including incest fic.

I happen to be rather fond of the character of Becky too, she's fun.

I like adding in little details to remind characters how 'famous' they are in their own worlds. Dolls of a princess in her wedding dress, magazines ala 'Tiger Beat' to torment handsome young men who keep appearing on the news...

In one TF fic I wrote some time ago, the Lambo twins were collecting their own trading cards from packages of bubblegum.

I remember one fic where the mechs were discussing the toys a company had made of them. Unfortunately it is not exactly a favourite fic because it was about a problematic love triangle, and I'm not exactly the biggest fan of sad romance fics with downer endings.

Mmm, I can see a lot of fun in that, but yeah... not when it's part of a bigger, problematic fic. (Alas.)
