Now I just have to get my head around the idea of him talking like that - and Cecil talking the way he does.
Cecil at least reminds me somewhat of Cloud - they have similar pitches in voice - something that does help my mindset as far as my beloved Griever-bunny is concerned. Now just to put that together with Kain and Squall...
In my head, Kain has always had a deep, slightly gravelly voice, while Golbeza has a light, silky tenor (a la Michael Crawford in The Phantom of the Opera)
While that is great idea, I won't be surprised if Golbez is deep - I once heard there's a tradition in Japanese animation of making the darker characters have deeper voices.
Yeah, you're right. I was gonna say something akin to that in my comment below, but didn't (partly because I don't think of Kain as a bad guy, because he redeems himself, and because I prefer deeper voices myself). I'll shut up now...
True he's not really bad, but for a good part of the game he's on the wrong side, so I can see why they wanted to give him the hallmarks of a "bad guy".
It kind of figures that Kain has a deep voice, although now I want to hear it (I shall go a-hunting online, like I did to find Auron - admittedly, I only found Japanese tracks featuring him, but the pitch is about the same as the guy they got voice him in the US/UK release).
Quickest way would be to go to the official FFIV site (http://www.square-enix.co.jp/ff4ds/) and look in the characters section for the vid on Kain's profile.
You can also take the time to ogle all the shiny new CGI models, because they all look damn cool - especially Yang and Edge, though Porom is really cute.
