mimi_sardinia: (I worship a sex god)

This is a little FFVII plotbunny that has been hanging around, keeping the Griever-bunny from bugging me a bit (along with the help of a couple of perennial favourite non-fannish bunnies that I will never be induced to divulge).

So, AC happens, everything quiets down, Cloud keeps working as a delivery boy (DoC may happen somewhere in here too). Cloud is on a delivery job to some quiet little mountain village. When he gets there, talk with the person receiving the package - the local tavern owner (or some such) reveals that he is only taking the package on behalf of someone else. The real owner is a hunter who lives in the hills above the town, coming into town only to bring in the fruits of his hunting and to buy supplies.

Some gossip between the locals reveals that this hunter has only been living there for a short time, has been singlehandedly keeping the monsters in the area under control and doesn't seem to own any materia, or even a weapon*. He's also considered somewhat "strange".

Something in the description draws Cloud's attention, so he offers to take the package up to the hunter's cottage himself and save it sitting around until the hunter next comes to town.

So Cloud gets directions and heads off into the hills, eventually finding the cottage and it's resident... is Sephiroth.

Of course Cloud reacts badly but Sephiroth holds his own, eventually fighting Cloud down and telling to go away and leave him to alone. This is backed up by a visitation by either Aeris or Zack - I lean more towards Zack in this spot.

Cloud backs off and leaves, but is still worried. He goes back to Midgar and visits the church to talk to Aeris and Zack, as he'd been directed to because contact there is more stable. Once there it is explained to him that after Cloud's fight with Seph/Kadaj in the Midgar ruins Aeris and Zack started trying to collect and purify the fragmented parts of Sephiroth's spirit. After Kadaj's apparent purification the possibility of maybe putting Sephritoh back together as a sane person looked possible.

They were mostly successful, but something happened in the living world to drag Sephiroth out of the Lifestream, into a living body (probably a cloned body). Seph however did prove to be sane, and realizing his very presence in the living world would draw negative attention, goes into hiding, knowing most of the current people in power would distrust him due to his actions while insane.

Of course then the single most powerful person on the planet - someone he wanted to avoid - stumbles into his life again...

From that point on, the idea nebulous, but it is simply a basis for possible Seph/Cloud-ness, as Cloud refuses to keep away from Seph and starts to build something of a friendship with him.

There's also nebulous ideas questioning whether Aeris and Zack's project for restoring Seph was fully complete, or if some remnants of his insanity remain buried in his mind, and the question of where the body he currently inhabits came from.

At least it keeps the Griever-bunny away.

* I read a fic not all that long ago that explained that Masamune is actually a manifestation of Sephiroth's own power, which is why he can get away with leaving it behind like he did when he killed Shinra Snr. I forget who's fic it is, but I love the idea to death and it would make him seem even stranger if there is no outward evidence of a weapon in his possession.
