mimi_sardiniaOkay so I have had this plotbunny chewing on me since my "History of Terra" post but the little bugger has been wringing out through plotholes. Now however, I think I got the last damn plothole plugged.
See, it started simply as a Squall-becomes-a-Sorceror idea that would allow for much porntastic imaginings when added to the bonus idea of Seifer being his knight but I went and got sick of the part that insisted on Rinoa turning evil so I was left trying to find reasons why Squall got her powers.
There was a part of the idea that included a land formation that acted as an insulator to Sorcery and I never did toss it out but I also have been wondering why, if Squall carried the Sorcerous powers out of it, they didn't just jump from him to someone else?
So Rinoa gets kidnapped. Probably by someone who has a grudge against sorceresses. She gets killed in this insulated location - which has a history of being an execution spot of sorceresses in the past. However she is stuck there because of the little fact that a Sorceress can't go to her rest until her powers are passed on and her spirit is held there by her powers.
Squall - who has been looking for since she got kidnapped - is the first one there (I have this vague idea that other people know where she's been taken and want to steal her powers by killing her there and letting their own cadidate take her powers) and Rinoa latches onto him (posibly because the other side gets there at the same time and she doesn't want to let her powers pass to someone untrustworthy).
Rinoa basically buries herself inside Squall's mind in a manner almost identical to a GF and as a result Squall becomes a defacto sorceror.
There are complications however - because Squall is male he is not suposed to have sorcerous powers but he has them because Rinoa has not given them up and is residing in his mind. This has set up a situation where, if they seperate, they both die. If Rinoa lets go of the powers they will leave Squall in a catastrophic manner that will kill him, and as a side effect will likely also destroy Rinoa's spirit at the same time.
There is a solution - brought up by Squall's resident GFs - if Rinoa can become a GF she will survive the loss of the sorcery because of the link to the Planet GFs have. Even so, she will not be able to leave Squall for the span of his lifetime because the departure of the sorcery - even if Rinoa can suport herself - will kill Squall anyway.
He's kinda stuck there, when he dies, it's going to be one hell of a big BOOM no matter what.
Of course, like all plotbunnies, this one bred as well but the result... I need to mull over a bit more before I consider posting it.
