So I have been chatting with [livejournal.com profile] angel_0f_sorrow on AIM, where she was talking about a nutty RP she was in that was a cross between FFVII, Beauty and the Beast and Sleeping Beauty, where she was playing Lucrecia.

The discussion got onto Grimore Valentine, then onto DoC as a whole and she found a german website with DoC spoilers.

THESE LINKS HAVE SPOILERS!!!
So here's the website (Google translated so expect bad grammar) and here's [livejournal.com profile] angel_0f_sorrow's theory on what it means.
THESE LINKS HAVE SPOILERS!!!

My thoughts on it turned to what could be extrapolated about FFVIII, based on this info (yes, I know the DoC info was created after FF8 so I know it has no bearing but I like theorising anyway).

So the german page says (and I am paraphasing here):

Still, there exists another WEAPON - Omega WEAPON. It is not the same however as the other WEAPONS out finally Fantasy VII. Omega is a kind of rescue system for the Lifestream, for emergency situations. Chaos is a servant of Omega.

If the Planet comes into a situation that will lead inevitably to its death, Chaos is to bring death to all organisms and return them to the Lifestream. Omega then takes all the souls of the Lifestream and flies off into the universe, in order to create new life on another planet with the souls saved from the Lifestream.

So Omega is basically a final solution - taking the Lifestream and settling on a new world to start again, away from the infection that was killing it on the old world.

So my question is Why is Omega WEAPON sitting in Ultimecia's castle?

There's two ideas, The first is simply that Ultimecia has tried to summon it and control it herself.

The second is that the FF8 Planet (remember, I believe the Lifestream model of planetary construction holds true for FF8 as well - it just never became an issue) may be so sick of everything that's happened to it that it wants to wipe out everything to get rid of the sorceresses totally and pick up and move base again.

So the question that is left is whether Squall killing it stops the cycle or just postpones it, as DoC!Omega apparently can't be killed. Also, if Squall only postponed it, does that mean the FF8 world recovers for a while after Ultimecia?

I really hate the sense of "Okay! Let's toss this world out the window!" feeling to FF - I'd heard somewhere someone once stated that by the epilogue/AC prologue the human race had died on the FF7 world and I get that feeling again when I consider Omega in FF8 in DoC's light.

Meh, that was cheery.
