Just had a bit of a rethink on one part of the hybrid mutant plotbunny I posted a few days ago...
So the second part of the plot bunny - the part about Rinoa coming back and going off her nut when she finds out about Squall and Laguna - I have been considering it further. Everyone else in Garden wouldn't stand aside and just let Rinoa Zell and Quistis hold Squall prisoner so not only would there have to be punishment for that I doubt it'd be as simple as locking him in his room, because that would be too conspicuous.
First off, I got the idea into my head that Xu is away. Maybe she's off on a mission or some such. Secondly, Cid's gone - retired and handed over control to Squall and whoever else are the senior SeeDs.
I also got another thought, what if it's more than just normal persuasion Rinoa pulls? What if her sorcery comes into not only turning people to her way of thinking, but also keeping Squall captive? The fight to free Squall may not just be a case of kidnapping him and highjacking the Ragnarok to get him out of there but an all out fight to break Rinoa's control of the situation.
In the end I can see Laguna revoking any leniency he allowed for Rinoa and having her extradited to Esthar to be sealed and possible courtmarshals, depending on just how much culpability Zell and Quistis really have in the whole thing after Rinoa's control is broken.
This of course does take an even harsher view on Rinoa, and her being sealed calms one of my questions about just how possible it is for her to live far enough into the future to become Ultimecia - noting I consider Ulti to be hundreds - if not thousands - of years after the game's timeframe.
Meanwhile, random note:My journal layout is playing silly buggers. Seems to be acting normal again.
