I have for a while been holding back a rather nutty little FF8 plotbunny that has been chewing on my brain for a while. It includes everything - Griever=Squall, Squall junctioning Griever, Laguna/Squall... and now it bred with a bloody plot analysis (which is nowhere near as good as the two I read about FF7/AC and FF9 - it's too biased in a lot of places) and the whole Ultimecia=Rinoa idea (which I mostly like to discount).
Owie! Maybe I'll type the damn thing up later.
Edit: the plot analysis is not directly linkable. It is listed on this page.

2006-03-19 22:39 (UTC)As someone who believes in Rinoa=Ulty, I would be very extra innerested in reading a plot that includes Rinoa=Ulty by a person who mostly doesn't believe in Rinoa=Ulty. And I hope that made sense.

2006-03-20 04:01 (UTC)It seems that when someone who mildly opposes a stance or a cliche tackles it they try to do it in a believable way.
That said, while I prefer to ignore the Ulti-Rin idea even that plot analysis had enough of a decent arguement for me to see how it could happen. It even fits in my pet idea of Griever=Squall.

I like that plot analysis, but it seems to drop the ball on Time Compression. I remember reading some poem somewheres that implies the whole point of TC was to fulfill R/U's dimly conscious wish to be reunited with Squall. Sorry if that sounds obvious though -- I'm not very in touch with the world of fanfic.

2006-03-20 06:54 (UTC)The TC section I did find kind-of interesting but the whole alternate universes stuff got a bit too complicated for my liking.
Over all, the lack of objectivity was what really got to me, I have a very strong feeling that the writer was a diehard Squall/Rinoa fan and while I have been more simpathetic to Rinoa since playing the game I will never be a fan of her staying with Squall.
