You know that bloody black chocobo, Teioh, that turns up in A and S class races and thrashes one's own chocobo 9 times out of 10? I finally worked out how to beat it (albeit with an edited chocobo that has top speed possible and best stamina as well).

The trick is to keep the secret stamina-charge keys down (R1 and R2 on PS I think I have seen - the PC version, I have found after much annoyed experimentation, is 1 (End) and 3 (PgDn) on the side number pad (all game controls are on that pad though)) and keep with the auto pattern - sprint at the start, relax into normal run for most of the rest of the way, then sprint when one gets into the final wriggly piece of track. I actually find it better to stay on auto through the initial sprint, then go manual somewhere halfway through, then manually sprint the last stretch.

See, if you have a fast chocobo (176 kph) Teioh will stay with your choco until the final sprint. It is then you will need to outrun him and if you've been using the stamina cheat then you have a full stamina bar to use to do it with - and not enough time for Teioh's unfairly huge stamina to outlast your own (he's got over 1000 while player-chocobos can only get a maximum of 999).

I had the questionable luck of getting Teioh in Nienna's first A Class race and having observed this pattern I tried my hand at beating it and won. I have only ever beaten Teioh twice, the other time was the first time I raced him (with admitedly edited choco's).

Meanwhile, I gave up on fighting with the game over breeding and decided to get my male/female-black/wonderful pair a different way since it constantly wanted to give me female blacks (that's what Nienna is) and went and caught more choco's up near Icicle until I got a male Wonderful which is now named Tulkas.
I also released all my other chocobos, since I'm not going into the long breeding course, so all I have is Tulkas and Nienna - Nienna needs 20 or so random battles before she's old enough to mate then I will have my Gold.


On something not quite completely different (yes, Monty Python is still in the back of my mind), the video clip of the new DoC trailer going around - despite the bad quality - is really good. I love seeing a high-res version of Turk!Vincent! And it really looks like Reeve, Yuffie and Cid are major characters on Vin's side. Can I just express my amusement that the two characters that Vin commonly gets paired with are looking like they have big roles? Why do I suspect Squeenix of more fanservice there - sucking up to both Yuffientine and Valenwind fans? XD

Also, I want a DoC Turk!Vin icon. Preferably with a similar caption to this one - I'd swap this one for it without having to change the keywords.

I think I have finally gotten through to the Other Side Of My Head (aka The Bint) on the subject of a PS2. It'll be while yet, I may not be able to get one until next year.

Don't even mention the PSP to me, that is just not happening. Besides, I want to play PS1 games and the PSP could hardly do that!

I'm also having to reread the last chapter of Why Me? A Love Story for Manic Depressives - it's been so long since I read the existing chapters that I need a refresher before hitting the new chapter (wheee! New Chapter!). I wonder if I'll get back into the Sims tonight?

Oh, and on the subject of Sims, I am officially pissed off at C&C - their site is down.

What is the point of the pink ribbon? I'm pretty sure the person in those heavy robes that has turned up in scans that are going around of Dirge of Cerberus is Yuffie because trailer 3 of Advent Children - if you watch carefully during the Bahumut fight scenes when Yuffie lands and says something to Tifa (I think) you can see the ribbon on her shuriken.

So why's it there? I've red in some fanfics about her taking one of Aeris' ribbons, is that what it is?


I also have an addiction to that trailer, it has the best music of the lot - not chopping and changing between pieces and a pretty full idea of how that piece goes. Seriously, if it is just for that piece I'd buy a soundtrack CD! Wonder if they're putting one out?
