A/N: This is backstory for my Guardianverse - specifically background for [Neo]Bahamut's (Kain's) life as a human.
The Fairytale of the Dragon King
Once upon a time, there was great and powerful king who ruled over a powerful kingdom. His kingdom was so powerful that he split it with a vassal of his, naming the vassal co-ruler.
This vassal king had a beautiful wife who he loved very much, and she him.
But the High King was in a quandary, as he loved them - not just the love of a dear friend, but that of a romantic light, but he did not believe they would accept his affection and would reject him if they knew.
Unbeknownst to him, the vassal king and his wife knew of their lord's regard and would willingly return it if he would come to them, but not wanting to push him into something so complex too quickly.
This stress of this stalemate became so much that the vassal queen finally spoke with her husband about the matter and the two finally decided to speak to their lord, despite their misgivings about doing so.
Their gambit paid off, and the high king was relieved that they wished to have him with them. The three ruled their realm in joy and happiness for many years.
Their bliss was not endless though, the People of the Stars, ancient and wise folk who had taught the High King and his people many things, began to fight between themselves, gathering followers amongst the peoples of the Earth.
The High King gave his support to the followers of the Light, and with his aid they defeated the followers of the Darkness, but the evil sorcerer who served the Darkness could not be killed so he was imprisoned by the followers of the Light on the moon of Artemis. The High King was asked by the followers of the Light to guard the moon so the Servant of Darkness could not escape.
The High King turned to his two beloved vassals, declaring them high rulers of his people in his absence, before becoming a great dragon and flying to moon, to guard the world from the Darkness forever more.
