Love it.
To put it simply, I love reading, and fanfic manages to come up with plenty of reading material for me. Sure, the quality varies greatly, but you get stories of your favourite characters.
The other thing a can't say enough about fanfic is that it can tell stories you wouldn't get from the canon source. Romance in a cartoon about giant robots fighting? Not likely, but fanfic will have it. Slash? Barring Torchwood and a few other enlightened fandoms, not bloody likely - go read fanfic. Harry getting it on with Hermione? Well we all know what happened to that ship, but fanfic has turned it into a submarine.
Canon is all well and good, but sometimes you want something that serves off the canon path, so there fanfic serves.
