I typically collect whatever I am currently interested in, fandomwise. From my earliest days online...
When I was a fan of Star Trek, back before and when I first got online, I watched Star Trek and bought the occasional book about it.
When I got into Baldur's Gate I eventually realised how little I knew of Faerûn and bought the Campaign Setting guide for that world, as well of two of the core rules manuals for D&D. It helped a lot in informing me about Faerûn, since I'd never even seen a whole map of the continent.
I watched as much of DBZ as I could catch.
I was at the bookstore at 8:30 AM the morning OotP was released, started reading it at 9:30 (on the bus home) and finished it in 10 hours.
I started collecting the books of the History of Middle-earth set, but due to finances only ended up with 4 or 5 of them. (The set has 12 books.)
I ended up with several Final Fantasy games, both KH1 and 2, and PS2 and a DS Lite.
I have all Doctor Who and Torchwood DVD box sets, not including the between-season specials after season 4 DW, or Children of Earth.
And last and most current, I have 114 Transformer toys - some of whish shared packs with each other, 4 more on laybuy and hopes I can get several other notable pieces. Full details of what I have are on my Toymuse post.
