This isn't what I had originally thought to write when I decided I wanted to write more for the Griever-bunny, but this is what has come out first.
Prettymuch Griever-Squall-centric, heavily based on Summon theory from the plot analyses of Glen Morrow (aka Squall_of_SeeD), and the writing is probably as rough as hell.
Self-Made Legend
He had not even realised what he had done until hours afterwards.
Laguna had been in Galbadia, on a diplomatic mission to work out arrangements between Esthar and the new Galbadian President, Carroway. Garden had been there, acting as security for the whole thing - Squall Leonhart acting as bodyguard for the Esthari President himself... or so everyone was lead to believe.
The truth was that Balamb's Commander had been injured in another mission only days beforehand and Griever had taken his place, disguising himself in a human avatar - that of his younger self, Squall Leonhart.
The attack on the Presidental residence was sudden and severe - a disident faction of Galbadian army that had been loyal to Edea during the Sorceress War. They had not actually attacked to take out Loire or Carroway, they had attacked specifically to hit at Squall, for stealing the "glory" that had been promised by the Sorceress. Somewhere in the course of events however Laguna had been shot - a deliberate attack to hurt Squall, whose blood relationship to the man had not long become public.
Griever was the one who struck back.
Griever had been hurt at Squall's absolute despite of Laguna when the truth had come out - a stance that in his centuries since, the Guardian Force had come to regret, so his rage that someone should hurt his father had been swift and spectacular.
The Self-made Legend, that is what the other Guardians had called him - had called his elder, when he had still been the Younger, and this was the cause. The explosive transformation from his human disguise into his leonian battle avatar had been witnessed by hundreds of people, promptly connecting the name "Squall Leonhart" with "Griever", creating a worldwide sensation and building on the already considerable repuation the Lion of Balamb.
Rumours were already going around that Squall Leonhart was a Guardian Force in disguise, the Lord of Lions, the Sleeping Lion, the Lionheart. Griever knew the force of those rumours would be the tsunami that would eventually change Squall into the being they were saying he was. Despite normal presumption, Guardian Forces did not create legends - legends created Guardian Forces, and sometimes human souls could be caught up in them.
Griever's own legend was starting again, created due to his own actions, and for better or worse, he would see to it that his younger self lived through it, to set it off once again.
