More Guardian-fic

More of what I am going to start calling my Guardian-verse. The FF8 ficlets about Griever-Squall, GF-Ellone and Chaos-lord-of-the-GFs.
I suppose it was the almost undetectable mention I threw in the last one of these of the idea
angel_0f_sorrow and I put together that has prompted this one.
The idea of summon-human mergers in this fic is my attempt to sew together the idea of humans becoming Summons and the description of Eidolons in Squall_of_SeeD's FFIX Plot Analysis (and to a lesser extent, also in his Advent Children one).
It works in my head at least, I hope it doesn't confuse folks too much.
As always, warnings for Dirge of Cerberus spoilerisms.
Phoenix
Phoenix is something of a mystery amongst the Guardian Forces. She is one of the few ancient guardians - one of the ones from the Last World. She is also one who has a human persona, like Lord Chaos.
The Guardians are spirits created from the world's dreams and legends. Legends create them, give them forms and dictate their personalities and powers. Not all Guardians are pure legends however - some have been human souls who have become so intertwined with the legend that human spirit and Guardian spirit have merged.
Shiva is a very good example of this, she was a Sorceress Queen of Trabia in those early centuries of sorcerous kingdoms before the rise of the last Centran Empire. Her talents were in Ice magic and she got titled with the name of the Guardian Shiva for all her icy nature and resemblance to the legend. In the end the queen's spirit - once freed of her sorcery - merged with Shiva the Guardian and Shiva has worn her face ever since.
I think I owe my place amongst the Guardians to the legend that sprang up about Ultimecia. Despite all the best efforts of Uncle Laguna and of SeeD, information about her leaked to the general public and the image of a woman who controlled the power of Time was imprinted on the general consciousness. My own powers - ones that owe nothing to Hyne and everything to the planet - were just the right thing to bring that modern legend to life and I became what I am now, an unseen Guardian of Time.
Fenrir tapped into a legend that did not yet have a Guardian that wore that form. Along with other information about the Sorceress War news got out about Seifer Almasy killing the Guardian Odin. Considering legend held that Odin would be killed by a great wolf named Fenrir the image of that wolf got attached to Seifer by the media. He took some ironic glee in adopting the wolf as his symbol and it eventually became even more the truth when he actually became the Wolf Guardian.
My brother created his own legend, his very existence as a Guardian a strange loop in the fabric of Time that I do my best not to touch least I unravel History to the detriment of us all. News of Griever leaked just as news of Ultimecia and Seifer's killing Odin did, and later Griever's summoned appearances, and even later the whole circumstance around Squall's "death" all contributed to turning him into the Lion Guardian.
But Phoenix is confusing because she retains not one, but two human faces.
The older Guardians have told me that humanity amongst our kind fades. Bahamut has the memories of his older disparate selves from the Last World and can faintly remember back to a time, several worlds ago, when one of his previous incarnations had been a knight in blue armour - one of the spear-carrying Dragon-knights of legend. That person he was no longer exists, he is pure dragon now. Only the memory remains, and the world-memory of those knights, who return in one form or another in every world.
Not even Shiva - who has a more frequent history of human mergings than most others - has two faces at a time but somehow Phoenix does.
Griever does not fully know why either and he is close to Lord Chaos. What he does know however is that both of Phoenix's faces somehow come from the Last World, and both of them are personally known to Lord Chaos - friends of the human he merged with in that world, the one named Vincent.
One of Phoenix's faces I have seen a few times, a young redhead girl, ageless, caught on the brink of adolescence. That is the face Phoenix wears the few times she has needed to walk unknown amongst humans.
There is another face however, a beautiful woman, wearing white and slightly sad. I have seen her only once, in a private moment with Vincent. The Destroyer's human side loves her - I could tell. I know because it is something I could see in a simple touch, and hear in the way he spoke her name - Lucrecia.
