mimi_sardinia: (One Sexy Beast)
[personal profile] mimi_sardinia
This is another of my FFVII/FFVIII ficlets - you know, the ones where Vincent is a secret GF. This one I imagined from the POV of Ellone actually. I used an idea I had about the sort of position I think Vincent would take.
There's also a mention of something I thought up while chatting with [livejournal.com profile] angel_0f_sorrow - she will probably understand what I mean but no one else will since I didn't elaborate on the idea here.

As always with these, some spoilerism for FFVII:DoC.

Everyone thinks Bahamut rules the Guardian Forces and in a way they are right.

In another way they are also dead wrong.

Bahamut makes the day-to-day decisions over the GFs but before deciding he always looks to the opinion of one other.

That one is the true master of the GFs.

He doesn't like to command but he is by far the wisest of the planet's guardians - and the oldest. In fact he is older than the planet itself.

His memory spans back billions of years, over the lives of many planets. He is guardian of not only this world but every one of those worlds, and every one that will come after.

He is also their destroyer.

It is the cycle of things, a world is born, it grows and lives, it gets old. When it is too old to continue the Destroyer calls up the End of All Things and the soul of the world is swallowed by the Great Beast which carries it to a new home, to start again.

None of those past worlds are totally gone. The soul of the world is made of the memories of the creatures that lived on it and the core of those memories pass from one world to the next. Familiar things appear on each successive world, brought into being by those memories.

Sometimes the guardians pass from one world to the next as well. Bahamut has, he came from the last world, as did Phoenix. Talk amongst the guardians say that Odin did too. I do not know about that for sure, I am too young.

The Destroyer travels from one world to the next as well. The last world - Bahamut and Phoenix's world - gave him a human form and a human soul, though part of him - the part that remembers the older worlds - is as eternal as the world-soul is.

My brother has grown to respect him, even moreso than he respects Bahamut. That's probably not that hard, my brother out-powered Bahamut a long time ago. My brother respects the Destroyer more because he is willing to guard me. It is in the Destroyer's interest to guard me - I know how dangerous my powers are, as does he.

He may be "The Destroyer" but he is also a guardian - the Guardian. For while it is his place to decide the end, he also guards the world before that time comes. He will not see this world end before it's time - the last world almost suffered that.

Our greatest worry in this world are the sorceresses. That is what worries the Destroyer the most. From what I have learnt from the other guardians Hyne was not the god humanity believe him to be, nor was he human either. He was an alien who came to this world and built an advanced society out of a race of primitives, but his powers hurt the planet.

The Destroyer has seen something like that before.

The guardians fought Hyne along side humans and the Great Beasts. Many of the humans died, as did all but one of the Great Beasts, but in the end they took Hyne with them.

Hyne's power however could not be neutralised, the planet could not break it down. It ended up divided, creating the first sorceresses.

None of those sorceresses could have hurt the planet - they had too little of Hyne's power to do so, but as sorceresses died over the centuries their powers merged, creating more powerful sorceresses.

Ultimecia could have hurt the planet, she had the power to summon the Great Beast but could not control it. Only the Destroyer can do that.

With the loss of Ultimecia's powers to the past it will take even longer for all of Hyne's power to gather again. This is good however, the Great Beast was sacrificed and another one must be bred in it's place.

Meanwhile we wait, and watch, and guard. As does our true master, the power behind the throne, the Destroyer, Lord Chaos.
