I am a certified computer addict.
Fëanor was refusing to start, coming up with a message about shutting down to protect files before shutting off completely and not responding unless I turn off the wall switch.
Mum did recall when this started though, it was when she stuck a disk in the wrong drive.
See, I have two optical drives, the original computer package I bought five years ago only had a CD-R drive in it but I modified my order to include a CD-RW instead plus a DVD drive. The DVD drive was admitedly the cheapest one they had in catalogue - one with a slot opening instead of a draw - so when only a year or so later my HP:CoS DVD got jammed in it and I got told to be careful because the drive was causing cracks in the disk I stopped using that drive all together and depended solely on the CD-RW. Not that it bothered me at that point, I got a DBD player anyway and the CD-RW was the master drive anyway, plus it over-all did more, being able to record.
So when I took Fëanor in a couple of months ago I wanted the wonky DVD drive replaced but wouldn't you believe it? they put the new drive in place of the CD-RW and left the damn DVD player in there.
So the result is we have put masking tape over the slot of the bad drive so Mum doesn't make that mistake again (the worst I have ever done is try to eject a disk from that drive when I intended to one above it).
