Yey

Well I just replayed the end of FFVII and did it better.

I know there's a warning about pulling Omnislash or KotR against Jenova or Bizzaro but damn, it makes the final fight boring if you don't use them!

I got to pull out several of the Summons (Shiva has the shortest show) and got Supernova pulled on my team which then gave me all three Limit Breaks so I set loose Chaos, set off Highwind on Sephy's feathery butt but didn't get to Omnislash him as well until the final "staged" fight (admitedly, that gives the best show of the move anyway so... ^_^)

I find myself wondering about something I have heard about Vincent and Yuffie and their lack of presence in the final FMV that makes me wonder, if they were in Midgar, does that mean they weren't in the final fight? At least, according to Square's canon?

Hmm...

So they're just making up excuses in DoC huh?

Apparently.

Let me recount a story I heard so long ago that I sadly have no sources for and that you don't have to believe a word of.

Back when FFVII was being planned, Vincent was the main character. Or, more correctly, the main character had Vincent's design. But much of the creative process behind FFVII involved trying to usurp the popularity of FFIV - despite the subsequent releases of FFV and FFVI, Japan still really loved Cecil and crew.

(of course, this is apparent because FFVII does little more than rearrange a bit of FFIV's plot and swap a few characters out)

'Vincent' as the lead wasn't deemed sympathetic enough, or something, so Cloud sprung into existance and progress continued. But, likely Nomura or Sakaguchi or perhaps even Amano, someone said 'Vincent' does have a cool design, let's make him a bonus character!

And by this time, the game was over-budget and past-due and that's why it's so glitchy and full of plotholes and some things that likely should have been explained... aren't.

They really could have tried for an original plot, though. Despite doing FFIV really well...

Ahh well, I still love it though. ^_^

Is that what they're saying for DC?

Good lord; I'm beginning to think that Before Crisis actually did a competent job meshing with the original game compared to DC.

From what I've seen and heard the opening of DoC has Vincent and Yuffie in Midgar at the time of the final battle in FFVII, and having something to do with Rufus Shinra's rescue.

So as I said, excuses for why Vin and Yuf weren't in the final FMV.

Still, that's a damned lame excuse. [livejournal.com profile] misskalloway is absolutely right in that the only reason why Vin and Yuffie didn't affear in the ending FMV was because the game's staff lacked the resources to make alternate versions.

You would think that the DC staff would even take into consideration the fact that Vin and Yuffie, if one or both of them is in your party, at the very least appears in cutscenes and fights Bizarro Sephiroth along with the others =P I guess that was asking too much.

Yeah, seems Square has a hearty dose of Stupid on their staff.
