You know, I would really love to see a FF7/8 crossover where Squall is dumped in Cloud's world. Cloud in Squall's world seem to be a dime a dozen.

Now that I think about it, I have seen one such fic... though it also has both of them - plus Zidane and Kuja - going to Squall's world, then finding out both worlds are the two worlds of FF9.

Still, there needs to be more, and there's always the easy plot device to do it with: Time Compression.
