Nausicaä...

I'm starting to wonder if the version of Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind I saw back when I was a kid wasn't the one the wikipedia article mentions as having been edited by the American distributors to the point where a lot of the evironmentalist message in it was massacred.

There's parts - particularly the more evironmentalist parts - that don't look familar to me at all and I'm wondering if it's my bad memory or if I really never saw those parts before.


So as you can guess, it was in at the video store when I took back the load of Disney. I am glad however to have a chance to watch it again, it's a good story.

If you do rent Nausicaa, watch the sub! Some of the dub is good, but the actress who does Nausicaa herself doesn't do the character justice.

Getting your hands on the actual Nausicaa even just two years ago was a major task involving secret spy action and ninjas and stuff.

If you've seen it back then, odds are pretty good you saw "Warriors of the Wind". And yes, Topcraft butchered it. (the same guys who made The Hobbit animated film)

It was longer than two years ago when I saw it, it was probably something like 17 years ago. I do presume that the DVD I have now is the more complete version though.

I can't help but wonder at the english voice actors, Lord Yuufa sounds a hell of a lot like Patrick Stewart.

In the Warriors of the Wind version, Nausicaa is voiced by Rocky the Flying Squirrel from Rocky & Bullwinkle. Frankly, they had nowhere to go but up.

Sure, I don't mind. Most of what I natter on about is fannish stuff - mostly Kingdom Hearts at the momment (I'm playing KH2 through - slowly - at the moment).
