FF Kids

I've just been thinking, over the last few hours since I got thinking about Larsa Solider, about kids in FF games, and it seems that practically all the games since FF7 (since I don't know any of the pre-7 ones well enough to give an opinion) have some sort of Token Kid - either of the Cute Kid, or Smart Kid type.

FFVII - Marlene.
BC - Yuffie.
AC - Denzel (though he shares with Marlene).
DoC - Shelke.
FFVIII - Ellone.
FFIX - Ekio.
FFX - Bahamut's Fayth.
FFX-2 - Shinra.
FFXII - Larsa Solider.

I know, I didn't include FFXI, but I know crap all about 11 and am never likely to bother since it's a MMORPG and my internet connection is crap for things like that.

Also, KH kinda doesn't count, since the lead character is still young either that he scrapes into the "Cute Kid" catagory - or at least he did in KH1, before puberty really hit him. (That makes me wonder, has anyone ever written a fic that actually brings up how much Sora grew while he was asleep between CoM and KH2? That'd be interesting reading.)

Dub - Subs

The subtitles on AC do not totally match up with the dub.

I am guessing that it means that the subtitles are more matched up to the japanese dub in some areas - or english dialog got changed slightly to match mouth movements a bit better.

I am also addicted to Reminicence - or specifically to the middle section of it that is set to One Winged Angel. I also like seeing the WEAPONs clearly.

Meh.
mimi_sardinia: (Yuffie)
Well I've watched it! I took notes on my thoughts on the dub too. ^_^

My Random Thoughts )

I thought I caught a few scenes where there was more footage than was in the avi copy I got from Gnome but that may just be a lack of attention on my part.

The visuals were brighter - slightly more washed out than my avi copy.

I also watched through the Reminicience of Final Fantasy VII - I'm actually glad of that - really. The FMVs are clearer in it than they are in the game. I suspect that in the game they are stretched out of proportion a bit on the screen I have (it's always surprises me a little how small screencaps come up when I paste them into Paint - none of my caps are size altered) so the quality on the DVD is a great thing to see - especially considering I saw the Northern Crater FMV - when Seph summons Meteor and the Weapons are released - only a few days ago and seeing it in DVD quality is great.

The line where Vincent tells Cloud to pass on a message to Yuffie telling her not to phone him is funny too.

So... mrrr. There's things it'll take me some time to get used to - Yazoo's voice, Rufus' voice, Vincent's voice Sephiroth's totally bedroom voice - problem is, I have long since gotten over my initial rush of fangirlishness for the movie thanks to constantly playing it on Media Player while doing stuff online that I'm not sure I'll watch the DVD all that much. Oh well. *Shruggle*

Fortune: Some people have it, some people seek it, some claim to predict it, and some say that it favors the brave. Write a ficlette inspired by the word "fortune."

I don't know if I'll make this a regular thing - putting links here.

The plotbunnies are biting again, through they aren't being very original at the moment. Current idea has strong resemblance to bits of this series, particularly One of These Days, and moreso to [livejournal.com profile] bard_linn's Equivalent Trade. There's also a part of the plot that may get me castigated for Tifa-bashing.

Anyway... )

So there you go. I'd advise CloTi fans not to read - I'm usually nicer to Tifa but... :) Sometimes you need to vent against an unfavoured character.

Yey

It's nice to find another copy of an AMV I thought I had lost to random corruption.

Now I suspect I need to clean up my AC playlist of video clips since I renamed a few along the way.

(File presumed lost was [livejournal.com profile] nashidesei's AC AMV "We Can't Afford To Be Innocent".)

I want chocolate.

There will be chocolate tomorrow but I want it now.

Pity the Entice icecream was finished off.

Oh, and I happened to notice, Seph has gorgeous lips.
mimi_sardinia: (Where is the light)
Next time any of you go watch AC watch out for this:

When Cloud is in the "Promised Land" after being shot by Yazoo, and Aeris puts her hand on his forehead, just after he says "Kaasan", when Aeris starts to speak LOOK AT THE SPOT WHERE HE GOT STABBED BY SEPHIROTH. It's glowing mako-green. Aeris heals it (and repairs the cut in his shirt too).

Okay, so I'm currently reading a Plot Analysis of Final Fantasy IX - not unlike that one I read a few weeks ago about FF7 (actually, I got the URL for this FF9 one from the FF7 one) and something occurs to me:

Sephiroth's plan with geostigma in Advent Children works a very similar way to the Iifa Tree.

The Iifa Tree was basically weakening Gaia (draining it of souls) so Terra could take over - once enough geostigma-perverted souls (negative Lifestream) flooded the Lifestream Sephiroth would be able to take over.

The analysis has already made connections between the creation of Mist in FF9 as being like the production of Mako in FF7, and has also brought up that the whole takeover theme also exists in Spirits Within.

Reading this stuff does another thing, it makes me appreciate how much of common FF themes got put into SW.

It strikes me as interesting that the person who spoke up with am understanding of what Vincent was talking about on the Sierra (the discussion of Kadaj being a chrysalis) is Cid.

Somewhere I read a story that mentioned Cid thinking over something very technical and at the time it reminded me of the fact that most astronauts are highly trained in at least some feild of science - so the extension of that thought is that Cid probably has some very hefty training behind him (engineering has to be one of them - after all he's built two airships, hasn't he?) and is not dumb.

Just a random thought, brought on by listening to AC again.

OME!

This is a MUST for download people!

Meanwhile, if it is at all doable, someone needs to make a KH AMV set to Magic Kingdom In The Sky by Davinci's Notebook.

ICONS!!!!

I did it! I paid up this journal for a couple of months so I get to enjoy a few extra icons now.

It's not easy picking them though, when I only have 12 spaces to fill and shitload of icons in storage.

Oddly enough, though I have a few funny Yuffie ones, I like this one better - she looks really pretty in it.

Sephiroth

So, after giving that information overload I read some thought, I have come to see a way through the issue of Sephiroth to allow for reserection fics in my mind.

Yadda, yadda, yadda... )

Upon a bit further reading of that plot analysis I mentioned last post, I find it's conclusions about Sephiroth rather interesting.

Again cut for spoileriness )

I found a link to an extensive plot analysis of Advent Children and have been reading it.

I'm not finished yet but there is one section that sparked an insight for me about Yazoo and Loz's fates (SPOILERS!) )

Of course, this is just a personal theory, take it or leave it, as you wish.

Write a list of twelve characters, numbered one to twelve. Then answer these questions. Do NOT check behind the cut until you've written your own list!

Subtitles

Well, I started altering subtitles, starting with the Cloud/Vin scene (since I actually had an idea of what I wanted there) and while watching it with the video it struck even me as hilarious, even if I wrote it. XD

I don't think I'll have it nearly as easy with the rest though, not only are my ideas patchy at best but I also worry about trying to put too much text for the given speech going on.

The real pity is I can't take screencaps, when I try, the video keeps moving even in Paint.

After watching another parody fansub I have this insane desire to make my own set - one where everyone is talking about nothing but sex.

A few random ideas... )

So, anyone think I should go ahead with it?

Umm....

There is one line all the subs of AC that gets at me. It is curtesy of Cait Sith:

A man! Mr. Cloud's a man!

Huh. So it was really in doubt? I mean sure, I know aaaaaaaall about the crossdressing but... *Blinketh*

What gets me is that I have three subs and all three of them have that line the same. One I'm not surprised about because the grammar in it is uniformly bad, the second could have been left like that because it's [livejournal.com profile] shadow_sasuke's parody subs but the third... well I'm starting to wonder if people can't see the innuendo implicit there?
